Pretty much like any other tycoon
Yup. It's pretty much like any other tycoon. Granted, I have not played the game in several years - since I bought it, really - but I remember being bored by it. And that was in the middle of my tycoon craze, so that tells you a lot.

Mixed review - alright, but some issues
We got the game for next to nothing, and for the price, it isn't bad, but it could be a lot better. Overall, the look is about what you would expect for a game of the era. The people aren't too detailed, but there is enough variety to make it interesting. The ship doesn't look bad. Rooms and facilities have some neat details, for the older graphics. It's the game play itself that leaves something to be desired. The idea is that you choose a ship, fill it with various accommodations and entertainment, and set sail. You have operating expenses, and it's possible, if you don't save enough, to run out of money, and thus end the current game. The cabins come in a variety of sizes, and you can play around with placement, for the look you want. The first issue I noticed is that the passengers are real pigs. They throw trash all over, even if there is a trashcan readily available. With that issue comes another; staff placement. You hire cleaners and cabin staff, and also maintenance people, by placing a room for them, and each room (three varieties) holds up to six staff members. That's all well and good. The problem is that the staff seem unable to clean any deck level other than the one on which their crew quarters are placed. Well, for a cabin deck, that's not too big an issue, though crew quarters on the fourth deck, near the bridge, which would seem better suited to penthouse cabins, would look quite odd in my opinion. There is also a top, fifth deck, for a pool and whatnot, and crew cabins there would be beyond ridiculous. Yet, you can't clean without them! That is a HUGE flaw, in my opinion. You aren't even able to relocate a staff member to another deck. For players used to a system such as what we had int he Roller Coaster Tycoon games, with easily movable staff, this is highly frustrating.Another issue is similar to what you see in something like Mall Tycoon games; there isn't a lot to actually DO in this game, once you have the ship at sea. You can't build, and all you can do is watch the bridge crew, which is interesting for all of a half-a-minute, and follow guests around. There is a "first person" mode, so that you can walk around looking though the eyes of a guest, but you can't control this at all. Plus, any time they enter a facility, or go up stairs, you get knocked off. So, that's limited. Mostly, you simply kill time till you reach the next port, and can, if you gained enough funds from passengers, improve the ship a bit. As you can imagine, this is only fun to a point. So, is the game worth buying? Maybe. It depends on the price and what you want from a game. If you expect a lot of interaction, this isn't the game for you. If you want to simply see if you can manage the ship, and add improvements over time, and keep guests happy, then give it a shot.

Possibly Great
If you're a fan of Tycoon games it's worth checking this one out. There are a few caveats, however.Game summary: purchase a cruise ship and outfit it with all the stuff needed for a fun ocean voyage. Build cabins, manage crew, provide services, and organize activities. There's lots of stuff to build and do.(+/-) The graphics and sound are okay. The graphics for the ship on the sea and in port are great but the animations of the people are a bit rough. Not too bad as to distract you from the game but not that realistic either. The sound is rather weak and I didn't notice anything that was catchy or helped to increase the atmosphere.(-) Gameplay: the tutorial is horrid. Finding out what all the buttons do and how to navigate the game is pretty much up to your volition. You'll have to just jump in, pause the game, and click through all the menus to figure out what they do. This is a serious problem when it comes to managing some of the finer details of the cruise.(+) Performance: the game runs very well on my system and I think the requirements on the box are a good estimation of what is needed to run the game. If you have some problems reduce the game's resolution or detail levels. I noticed that resolution above 800x600 may cause some distortion or problems.(+) Entertainment: once you wade through the interface and figure how to manage everything the game pays off. It is fun watching your guests interact on the boat and trying to manage your company. I suspect it may get boring if you play it a lot which is why you should have multiple tycoon games on your computer - switch it up every once in a while!Take care

Ok
I got the game thinking it was awesome, but it was ok.Pros:Graphics were above my expectationIt had zoom and rotate with unlockable itemsCons:No instruction manual, (had to press all the key board buttons to find the controls)It takes up 15 minutes of just watching your ship when traveling to ports.Had no natural disasters.Extremely hard to keep a cruise ship for just one cruise circuit.Constantly crashing on my computer.

Luxury Liner Tycoon
Game is in o.k. condition but was just in a cardboard slip and not it's original packaging. Was disappointed in this as it was a gift and it looked like I gave a used game.

Fun but could be better
Luxery liner tycoon is a great game! build pools, casinoes bars and much more. the grafics r pretty good but the frustrating thing is depending on yor ship u get $150,000, $100,000, or $50,000 this means u can only build about 10-15 rooms with 3-5 things to do. for example i did a cruise with $100,000 i could only build a couple of items so when i left port expecting a ton of pasengers i got 5!!!!!!! due 2 this i got verry little money and went bankrup thus getting a game over also u have 2 trane staff to get better stuff 2 build and training isn't cheep! a great game but due to the fact that you always loose makes it a little frustrating 4 stars cuz of the fact that u usualy loose
