The Rough Guide to Cape Town, The Winelands and The Garden Route (Rough Guides)

I just spent one week in Cape Town and found this guide to be extremely helpful in orienting myself within the city and choosing my activities. I also had access to a companion's Lonely Planet, but liked this one better. Of course, the book has a lot more material than I could do justice to in one week, but it was a great help and I will also be sure take it along when I visit next!

The information provided is not as extensive as many other guides such as Lonely Planet. I will take the book on my trip but don't expect to rely on it very often.

An excellent guide with lots of practical and historical information. The size is great for carrying with you in a purse or backpack and you will want to have it handy all the time!

Most helpful and useful guide. My wife and I spent 7 weeks early this year in the Capetown and Western Cape region. This book helped us with the latest information and suggestions. Worth the price ad better than other older guides.

Not enough written on the garden route. Good details about cape town.

I'm not usually a huge fan of the Rough Guides, but their Cape Town guide suits me to a T. Full of accessible, practical, helpful information.

My wife bought this guide for our honeymoon, as we were travelling through the wine route, stayed a few nights in cape town, visited table mountain, cape point, some super exclusive vineyards (if you have the occasion or just the money for it, you need to check out Richard Bransons 'Mont Rochelle', we were blown away) and much more (I want to go back NOW!)...This book was a perfect teaser, we read it on the flight and throughout the holidays. It gave great little and big tips of what to do and what to avoid. We discovered quite a few nice things along the way, we probably would not have without this book.This book is actually full of useful content, rather than just a collection of glossy pictures (as another reviewer had pointed out). Being mindful of my luggage allowance, what a boon to be able to download this edition to my iPad. I will always have it with me on the journey and can refer to it easily. It's very well detailed and easy to use. A handy edition to my travel guides, the way forward.

Really useful for capetown and garden route. All we used for our 2 weeks there. Excellent restaurant recommendations and places to visit. All you need!!

Good as far as it goes. But BEWARE of the very patchy coverage. The west coast area (up towards Paternoster) doesn't feature at all, nor could I find any reference to Robertson even! So maybe try another guide if you're venturing very far out of town. Very detailed coverage of various buildings in the city though, if you want that kind of thing.

V good book, up to date, detailed information. Only gripe I have with it, as with all Rough guides is the way they lay it out - ie all accommodation and restaurants at end of several chapters. Still miles better than Lonely planet though!
