One Awesome Digital Recorder
The Olympus DM-901 digital recorder is a feature rich recorder that gets an A in my book. Some of the desirable features of the DM-620 have been improved upon with the DM-901. For example, scheduled recording works while the DM-901 is running on power supplied by the adapter. The DM-620 must be on battery power when using scheduled recording.I did have a problem learning how to use “Voice Detection” processing on the DM-901 and in fact spent a considerable amount of time on the phone with Olympus Tech Support as the tricks to get it to work properly are not documented.I discovered that if the recorder is set on manual for Mic sensitivity and the sensitivity set on 4, voice detection works perfectly both when used during recording or when processing a pre-recorded file to extract audio only sections. “Voice Playback” needs to be turned on during playback for it to skip silent sections of a recorded audio file. The user's manual states that it is turned on automatically but I have yet to try this. One of the reviews that I read noted that the user manual, the one online, is confusing. I can agree but with some intelligent experimentation operation and features become intuitive. I did have a problem understanding how Voice Detect functioned, In the first place it should be entitled “Audio Detect” for it does preserve, on play back, any sound voice or not that exceeds the Mic Sensitivity setting. Examples might be opening and closing a drawer, however I did find out that slamming a door will not be preserved at the level 4 setting. The recorded file using MP3 settings is more than accurate for use with speech to text software as my files are transcribed perfectly with Dragon Naturally Speaking. One feature I wish was different is the ability to insert an index mark while timer recording is in progress. But logic would dictate if timer recording is in progress more than likely it is being used because the operator is not present. Obviously index marks can be used on the same file during playback. The recorder is a tad larger than the DM-620. BTW, I’ve been using one of two 620’s I own since April of 2012. It is performing as new even though it has been subjected to very heavy use and long run times every work week and all week long. The only failure with this one is that it no longer remembers time and date settings when I change the battery. I did purchase another 620 this year. It will endure a bit less run times than did the first. That because starting July 5th 2017 the DM-901 will take over the heavy file recording requirements of my job.Since I first received the 901 less than a week ago, I still have a learning curve to go. I can add with confidence that my experience with the 901 in such a short time gives me the knowledge that it will do everything I need from it and then some. Also, based on my long term experience with Olympus Products, I fully expect my new 901 will not only fill the bill but also for a long time to come.I am very pleased with the performance of each and every one of my Olympus products. Their Tech support has been good and phone support is free which is the reason I started with Olympus to begin with. I will whole heartedly recommend the DM-901 recorder to anyone having a need for a great deal of flexibility in recording and playback as well as heavy usage.

Good recorder with terrible iOS App
I highly recommend this recorder. I am doing my PhD. I thought it would be a good idea to have the recorder for my classes.Pros:Nice color screen.Recorder feels like a well built electronic device, instead of some cheap made toy.Sound quality is amazingBattery life is amazing. I have been using it now for 4 month, about 8 hours per week and I am still on a single charge.Cons;Controls are very slow. You can't just turn it on and immediately start recording. You have to give it time for the recorder to boot up.Menus are a little confusing. Not a big deal, but it does take some getting used to.Now a huge con: the app for the recorder sucks!!! There no other way to describe the idiotic design of the iPhone App. I imagine Olympus hired a drunken monkey to design the app. It is easier for me to plug the recorder to USB and transfer my recordings that way.Overall, I still think this is a good professional recorder. It is worth the money. I bought Olympus external mic for it, and my quality improved a great deal.

Great digital voice recorder
I searched high and low before I purchased this unit. I like its multi-color UV meters and other features. I nice feature of the package is that software, called Sonority Plus, is included. The software does many things, including importing your recordings by folder. Note that Sonority sees your DVR as a device in File Explorer. This enables you to rename your folders to whatever you want. Olympus tech support says that it can't be done, but I did it! I just had to have this device so I got it, but it has a ton of features. If you're just going to record voice notes, it may be overkill, but its very nice.

Fairly good with some short comings.
I use this for remote recording. It does that fairly well. 2 issues. First, it uses WIFI for remote control so you cannot access the internet on you phone while you are remote controlling the recorder. Second, the battery life is quite sub par. Being the only one of its kind, I gave it 3 stars.

Setting of recording mode is simple and easy to use
Recording is very sharp and clear. Setting of recording mode is simple and easy to use, which make it very handy for people who frequently needs to be on the move.As for editing the recording I would prefer if the software could include a variable speed selection to enable the removing of unwanted noises from the sound track. This model of recorder with Wi-Fi remote control function from smartphone is not valid in South East Asia countries because the operating software is not available for now in this part of the world. On the whole my rating for this voice recorder is very good.

Best of all I know
I am a big fan of Olympus, specially on voice recorders. This one exceeded my expectations. I could record multiple persons in a conference with the DM901 set 10 meters away from them and with the noise filtering options and a good pair of headphones I could transcribe the content. Really good acquisition. Super recommendable.
