More technical handbook rather than for the novice
More for the technical archtect not a novice like me who is wanting to restore an old Georgian terrace. Will offer it as a valuable gift to a relative working in the build environment. Thank you!

Arrived on time, condition as promised.
I needed a reference on Georgian Architecture for a project. This fit the bill and not too expensive.

Interesting authentic source book
This is a very useful book for those who are interested in studying authentic sourcebooks for Georgian architecture. Essential for the library of any serious architect or enthusiast.

Swan is a natural...
I don't think balance, proportion and line can be taught. You either have it or you don't, but it definitely can be cultivated by exposure to construction challenges and real-world building. Swan practiced architecture based on a journeyman's experience with high 18th century design. His elevations are balanced and pleasing and his moulding details are sophisticated, stately and restrained. This is a must-have book for anyone who enjoys classic design or who wants to understand balance and restraint.

beautiful details
This is filled with page after page of sketches illustrating the details of the woodwork and architecture of the time period. A great resource for writers!

limited value for colonial adaptations of Georgian style
This book has great value for architects of public buildings and monuments, but little guidance on characteristics of the style that can be used in vernacular American adaptations as found on the eastern tidewater. The genius of the many builders and tradesmen of colonial times who were able to simplify and abstract the complex and ornate examples shown in this book will be readily apparent to anyone who has driven the "Plantation Tour" of Virginia's James River. Jefferson's Monticello is another good example. If limited funds dictate the purchase of only one book on Georgian style, a better choice would be "Get Your House Right" by Marianne Cusato.

probably good for architects
Not really what I wanted.... its just plans and architectural views I was hoping for a bit of something else. It is also very specialised, maybe all Georgian houses followed the same basic specifications..... actually I think they did :(Never mind, just taught me to only buy books that have more pages to view before buying.

Not Bad - Not Great
Being a Architect, I love looking at buildings (sad I know) and really had been looking forward to getting this book. So I was a bit disappointed when I received it, the drawings and information are very good it's just a very thin book.Worth getting if yo find it on a deal but other than that!!!???!!

Fine
Pretty much as hoped. A few minor scratches on the cover but nothing that prevented it being given as a gift as intended. Happy with it all.
