Last of the fixed power rifle scopes - long may it live!
This isn't my first Leupold 6x42 and it most likely won't be my last. Almost no other high-quality fixed-power rifle scopes survive (other than the outstanding GPO Spectra 7.5x50). Call me crazy, but I much prefer them over "zoom" scopes - they're lighter, less expensive and have fewer moving parts - so of course they're more robust. Simply, there's less to break.Following the 1X per 100ft rule, a 6X scope is perfect for 200 yards, but it can work fine for much farther. I don't want to have a lot of equipment with me (I only have two hands!) and with a fixed power scope in combination with the MPBR system I don't need a rangefinder - if the image is smaller than a known threshold, it's too far away - otherwise it's close enough to shoot with confidence. If I had a zoom, that wouldn't work - I wouldn't be certain about the magnification!

BEST ALL AROUND FIXED POWER ON THE MARKET!!!!!!
Well you can't beat a leupold fixed 6 power scope! Absolutely crystal clear glass ! I bought this scope for my browning 308 hunting rifle for some walk and stalk hunts and to be able to toss it on my AR15 with a Larue quick release mount when I want. Pound for pound these fixed power scopes from leupold are the best IMHO . If you do some research you will find that out of all leupolds scopes , their fixed 4 and 6 power scopes rarely find their way back for repairs or rebuilds. I chose a wide duplex to have a little more visibility around the cross hairs . My buddy has the heavy duplex and is great for low light shots and taking shots in heavy brush but after looking at the different reticle options I felt that the wide duplex was the best for what I was going to use it for. I went to the range last week and it was partly cloudy and I was just getting it zeroed at 100 yards. I got zeroed with my AR with 5 rounds . Now I'm a Vortex fan and mainly use Vortex on my rifles but the clarity in this leupold is night and day! Sorry Vortex for saying so but the simplicity of the fixed power scope and the amazing glass on this thing are what have me so satisfied with the decision I made! 6 power is a great compromise between 4 and 10 power and I don't have one regret on this purchase. Just pull the rifle up quick and BANG!

Winner!
Oh man! Just switched to this scope from the weaver k6 6x and what a massive improvement!detail in the scope is crystal clear even in low light or the dark shadows in a pine tree.I'm running this scope on a savage 17 hmr and its a match made in heaven.I don't have anything bad to say about the weaver. its a fantastic scope for the price but the Leupold just blows it out of the water.I had the Leupold out last night in my front yard looking at the church about 80 yards away and I could still pull a shocking amount detail out of the shadows that I couldn't see into at all with my naked eye.I've owned several $700-900 scopes that didn't have this clarity.

Wise up, ya don't need a million magnification
I have used this exact model scope for many, many years. So glad that Leupold continues to make them and there are still a few smart hunters out there who understand the ruggedness and simplicity of this great optic. Have killed coyotes at 600 plus yards and elk at 15 yards with this wonderful, tough, getter done scope. Crystal clear and great low light gathering in twilight conditions. My go to hunting scope bar none.

Much preferred over a variable scope. Fixed from now on only for me.
