Lots of good information and illustrations of men and woman's fashions from the 1940s. The referrals to various websites toward the back of the book were especially helpful

I was expecting more glamour fashions than this depicts. It does have a broad range of clothing.

A somewhat inaccurate book but still enjoyable
I don’t make clothing but I do shop for and wear vintage clothing found in thrift stores and buy and wear vintage fedoras from eBay. The author gets lots of things wrong especially about mens fashion and hats of the 1940s. The author’s husband models a 40s look poorly looking like someone going to a costume party rather than a man stepping out of the 1940s. Still there’s not many books on the subject so it made for some enjoyable reading.

Poor quality images, limited content - very disappointed
The worst quality photos/images you can imagine - too grainy, pixelated, etc to see details. When you are dealing with a style guide, which is largely visual, poor graphics is just unacceptable. This book has the appearance of being printed on a home inkjet printer. A large number of the images are from sewing patterns or ads/catalogs, not real photos from the period. To make matters worse, in my opinion, many are credited as being from Facebook, Pinterest, clip art, and items for sale on various websites like Etsy. I'm a firm believer that if you want to show how real people dressed, then show real people in real photographs, especially in an era when a lot of clothing was made or altered at home. I found that the few real photographs that were clear enough to see details were far more interesting and educational than the whole rest of the book. The text would have benefitted greatly from a professional editor - there are typos galore and it's poorly written. I was particularly bothered by the many cases where the author simply directs the reader to helpful YouTube videos and blogs.Overall, this book is less of a "Complete Illustrated Guide" and more of a skimming of the web condensed into a brief overview, which touched only lightly on too many topics (ex: pants - less than 1 page; sweaters - less than 1 page; blouses - less than 2 pages; evening wear - less than 2 pages; hats - less than 2 pages). It read like a Comp 101 paper from a C student. Save your money and surf the web yourself.

Very much enjoyed the photos and tips
Very much enjoyed the photos and tips, especially the ideas for men. Other books on 1940s don't address men's clothing as so many were in uniform, but darn! Men really did want color in the post-war period! I would suggest, however, tighter copy editing, and perhaps a more efficient layout so paragraphs aren't scattered all over the pages. Made this a bit difficult to read.

Great starter and a mine of information.
Easy to read yet full of information. I loved this as a sewing resource. Enjoyable and informative I sought out the authors website.

This was an interesting book. However, the persistent typos and grainy, pixelated photos were disappointing.

A bit disappointed in this book as I was looking for something more English not American

Great help.
This book is a great help with 1940's fashions. I do re enact at 1940's events. I think I might wear this book out.

Not bad if you are a casual 1940s event goer tells you how to look even if it not 100 % accurate

Birthday gift.
My friend loves her book, as we're into the 1940's. She'll use it to style herself for re-enactment events this year.
