How to Start and Run a Commercial Art Gallery (Second Edition)

The Authority on the Subject
I liked the previous edition, I like this one. It's a great reader any art dealer would know. And any aspiring art dealer would probably need to know. As an artist, it's imperative at times to understand how the dealer works. It's hard enough putting yourself out there in the light. Understanding the biz side makes it less offensive when the non-creative part of the business happens. Great gift for artists, especially if they feel bruised around galleries, it will teach you why things go the way they go sometimes; it's not necessarily bad even though it doesn't get to feel like creativity all the time.

The Best Book Ever On Art Gallery Management
I've read a half dozen books on art galleries and managing them. While each of them offered some unique insights, if you only want to read a single book this is the one. It covers everything you need to know before deciding to open a gallery and lots of ideas that may save your gallery if you're not seeing the results you need. Edward Winkleman has tremendous experience in the art world and his knowledge is augmented by that of his co-author Patton Hindle. While there's a great deal to learn here many will benefit tremendously from the chapters on writing a business plan and promotional efforts.

Couldn’t recommend more highly.
Just an awesome book for anyone looking at opening a gallery. The book gives a comprehensive explanation of much of the art world as a whole and focuses on knowledge gathered from success and failures in the profession’s long history.
