1080p Up-Scale, True 576 PAL Support, Region Free!
I like Samsung players, this is my second as my first which is a Blu-ray player does NOT support PAL or is it region free. Here's The positives:1. Has true PAL 576 support. Unlike some players that actually convert PAL to NTSC with "choppy" video, this is true PAL video at 576i or 576p, as long as your TV supports it (not all HD TVs do). Since you will probably use 1080i/1080p upscale it will not matter.2. Region free so ignores the discs region codes and will play any DVD. I have not been able to test and confirm if it plays ones that contain RCE (Region Code Enhancement) which were made to not work on Region Free Players (i.e. if the Region is set to 0 instead of a number).3. Supports 1080p up-scaling and HDMI.4. Also supports CD Music (if you care about that) and price is cheap for what you get, considering it is hard to find a DVD player that supports true PAL and is also region free. Here's The Negatives:1. 720/1080 up-scaling has no 4:3 settings, so all DVDs will output at 16:9. If they are 4:3 they will be "stretched" and you have to use the "EZ Mode" on the remote to change it to 4:3 (called Vertical). My newer Samsung BD player has the setting in the menu for Aspect Ratio to be "native" this lacks it and is a bit annoying.2. The DVD has an old slide out tray (not a front insert) and it seems a bit on the cheap side. It's one of those players you know after use will have tray problems.3. The unit is very basic, no USB/SD card support (though it plays DivX and mp3 files from a disc).4. No Blu-ray disc support.Overall: If you want a basic DVD player that will play any DVD with any region and features HDMI 1080p up-scaling (or native res) this is it. If you also want a player that plays Blu-ray and is region free for BD, you have to spend a little more money.

WOW EASY set up & saves me quite a bit of money!! LOVE IT !!
Oh Happy Days !! I can view videos from other countries (specifically from England). First though, I was concerned about setting it up which is why it took me this long to even purchase a multi region player. But, I took the plunge. I removed my old DVD player, leaving the HDMI cable hooked to the TV ( and simply hooked the end of the HDMI cable that had been attached to the old Dvd player) Plugged the new one in of course, turned it on, put in a region 1 (starting off safe) DVD and much to my surprise the DVD player found it's own place on the TV and started playing the DVD. Fantastically easy. No fuss no muss... That was a few days ago and as I did not have a Region 2 DVD to try out we just had to wait it out. I had ordered a series from England (for sooooo much cheaper than what I could buy the Region 1 version) and it came today. So this was the real test of this Samsung player. Opened the Region 2 DVD, turned on the player put the DVD in and OH MY GOSH it just started playing. Oh and did I say I got the Region 2 DVD series for quite a significant less amount of money and that was INCLUDING the shipping !! So thanks to this DVD player I can now get some of the British Mysteries and Comedies I want, for less money and also some of the series I wanted to see have just never been put into a Region 1 format so could never see them. The ease of setting this up was startling so all in all this was a great purchase !!Update 2/8/16 Still love this DVD player. Have purchased 6 sets of DVD's from Amazon UK (believe it or not it is cheaper to buy many British Mysteries and Comedies from Amazon UK than from the States. INCLUDING considering the shipping !! Not to mention there are a number of British Mystery series not made for Region 1. So still saving money and love how easy this is!!!

Compares to Phillips DVP 3680.
It played DVD's from the UK (and also Region 1 American DVD's) out of the box (even though the box itself did not say it was an All-region player). For our other house I had earlier bought the Phillips player, similarly priced. To make the Phillips play UK DVDs I had to find codes to enter (courtesy of another Amazon user who posted them)that changed it from a Region 1 to an All Region player. That was no big deal, but it's obviously easier if it works out of the box, and one might also worry that posted codes would no longer work because of firmware updates in the player. .Picture quality seems fine. About the same as the Phillips. Certainly not better. Like the Phillips, it's a basic player, but it (and the Phillips also) do upconvert. Neither gets BluRay and neither streams. Both also play on a European PAL TV, not relevant to me. The Phillips seems slightly more compact and somehow the built in software has a slightly more polished feel to it. But the Samsung works and certainly is not difficult to use.As others have observed, the remote is very poorly designed...lots of indistinguisable small button on a small remote. The Phillips remote is even smaller but better designed--fewer buttons, more reliance on onscreen menus. But the remote design is not too relevant for me, as I use a Logitech Harmony One universal remote. Harmony knew this model Samsung and operated it without any difficulty, so the Samsung remote is now in a drawer.I've only had it a few days so I cannot comment on durability. We've had the Phillips more than year and it's been moved around a lot, without any problem. I'd guess we will have the same experience with this one.

A Must Have for Serious Film Fans
The multi-region player allows me to view DVDs not currently available in North America.
