Porter Cable 343 Type 2 5" Random Orbit Sander Replacement 5" Hook & Loop Pad # 151281-05

Own the 5" Porter Cable Orbital sander, early version, where many of the replacement parts have been discontinued. After several years of use the hook and loop pad wore out and would not hold the sanding disc, and thus rendering the tool useless. I searched a number of tool replacement parts outlets and fortunate thru Amazon I was able to locate the part I needed. Took approx. 15 min's to install the replacement parts and now I can use the tool. Pleased with my purchase.

Giving this 0 Stars. I took the old pad off, put the new pad on; should have been simple. Within 1 min. the new pad flew off the sander leaving the 3 screws still attached. The metal backing plate around the attachment holes is chewed up. (yes, screws were tight). I asked Porter Cable why this happened but no answer. It's a perfectly good sander but I can't attach a new pad. I might try attaching 3 fender washers to the pad backing plate with JB weld; then 3 small washers inside the rubber holes. If that doesn't work this new $25 pad will be a "sanding block" and I'll buy a Dewalt orbital.

Perfect replacement for the original pad that came on my Porter Cable sander. My original would no longer hold the sanding discs securely. Actually, it would barely hold them at all. I was going through a ton of discs as they would fly off and get damaged easily. I switched the pad out with this new one, and it's like it's new once again.

What I ordered: a replacement pad with a metal plate that would disburse heat, as in the photo of the item. What I got: a plastic backed pad (see photo). I tightened the screws on this as much as I could, as vibration is a known problem here. After about 5-10min of use the plastic melted. It also damaged the mount on the orbital sander (see photo).

When looking for replacement pads for my Porter Cable 343 orbital sander I read that you should avoid other manufacturer's replacement pads. So, I order the more expensive Porter Cable replacements. I received DeWalt 151281-08 pads which are identical, and I'm happy with them. But, I could have ordered/purchased DeWalt pads for much less.

Arrived immediately. Had purchased a new sander because existing sander pad was no longer holding the sand paper. It was easy to install this new one - worked like a charm. Not available at Lowe's or Home Depot -- so I was thankful to learn of this option.

Perfect fit for my sander.

Lasted about 10min during sanding before the plastic holes where it is mounted to the sander expanded and came off the sander.
