This is from the bissell website:can be used on carpet, area rugs, upholstery, and other similar soft surfaces. It works great on stubborn stains and underlying odors in heavily soiled areas around your home.

one of the reviews said to fill the reservoir to the 2x level I didnt see a 2 X level on my reservoir so how much would I use

If your machine is a "2X" machine, then just fill it to the fill line marked on the reservoir. If it's not a "2X" machine, I think you might need to use 1/2 the amount. I would test it and see how it cleans.

How does this work on normal household carpet spots, not from pets?

This is the best carpet cleaner I've ever used. I just finished cleaning a 4000 sq/ft house for sale. Carpet was 22 years old!! Used my Bissell steam Cleaner. Amazing stuff.
