EVERY student should have this dictionary!!!! 3 out of my 4 kids are dyslexic, and this is the dictionary that is, by far, the best! The sentences, with word usage actually make sense!!!!! Also, there is a "star" system, next to the word, to tell you how often you see the word used in the English Language! So long Webster.....Hello Collins!!

If you have ever struggled to understand the dictionary definition of a word or figure out how it might be used then this is the perfect dictionary for you. If you have an upper elementary, middle school or high school student this dictionary offers a broad range of words with easy to understand definitions and example sentences that make it very easy to understand the words. The usein sentences can be a HUGE help to using the words in context.

I found the Collins Cobuild Dictionary to be an excellent source. I am using it as part of lesson buildin for an Orton-Gillingham based program, Wilson Language and have found it resourceful. It lets you know how common (usage) every word it and even further identifies all words via a star rating at the end of the book. The definitions and sentences given are very comprehensible as well.

I bought this dictionary when teaching the Wilson Reading Program. The definitions are very child oriented and they understand the meanings of words so much better.

If you teach kids, or have kids, this is the dictionary you want. Webster's is fine if you have a strong vocabulary to begin with, but the co build dictionary is helpful for those students with weaker vocabularies and reading skills

掲載されている語彙レベルが自身の目当てのものと違いました。ラインナップがわかりづらいですね。この辞書はIntermediateの下かと思ってました。以下、参考までに語彙レベルを書きます。Collins English Dictionary > Cobuild Advanced Learner's Dictionary ≒ Cobuild Learner's Dictionary Concise Edtion > Collins Cobuild English/Japanese Advanced Dictionary of American English ≒ Cobuild Intermediate Learner's Dictionary >> Cobuild Essential English Dictionaryそれぞれ掲載されている語彙を見比べてみた所、こんな感じだと思います。間違ってたら訂正お願いします。IntermediateとEssentialの差が大きい割に、それ以上となるとさほど差が無い中に複数の辞書がある気がします。Cobuild Advanced Learner's Dictionaryと比べて本書の特徴：•軽い•若干収録語彙が少ない•ダイヤ印での頻度表示が詳細。Advancedでは上位３つだけだったのが、さらに下に２つのランクが追加されて５つまでのダイヤ表示がある。•最新のAdvancedでは品詞などの情報が欄内に収まっているものが、Learner'sでは欄外にある。そのため余白が多く書き込みがしやすい。•例文の数が多少少ない。•説明が若干短いので、細かいニュアンスが足りないことがある。供に２色刷りというのは同じですね。細かい違い、特にダイヤの数にこだわりが無ければ収録語彙が多く最新のAdvancedを買った方が良いかも知れません。
