MXL-603/604-OMNICAP Set of 2 omni capsules for MXL603,604

Lovely capsules. Not over-bright. Fits onto other similar mics eg CAD gxl1200

Great addition to the 603's. I use these mics a lot for drum overheads and like the pattern options these give me. I think the price was great too.

At first these seemed amazing, and an amazing deal. They slightly increase the sensitivity of my MXL 603s and seemed to do the job of omni capsules very well. Sadly I only used them one at a time for awhile, and I didn't use the two capsules together as a stereo pair for a few weeks. When I finally did, my stereo recording was junk because of how horribly the two capsules deviate in response. It's normal to expect any (non-matched) pair of capsules to deviate by a decibel or two, but these are way way out. I ran some tests on the two capsules and the results match what my recordings sound like. These are useless to use as a stereo pair, which is really the best use for omnis. Since I didn't discover the deviation for about 5 weeks it's too late to exchange them, so now I'm out the $50.

Worked exactly as expected

Mind you, I didn't expect DPA/B&K quality, as this pair of capsules was $50. I do own a few other MXL mics (10+ years old), and those are "usable". But these capsules arrived and did not work at all (no audio output). The cardioid capsules I have for the MXL603 work fine, and yes, 48v phantom power was indeed applied during the testing of these omnis. Both capsules barely threaded (with great difficulty and persistence) onto original MXL603 bodies. I have to assume my older 603 bodies were machined differently than these new capsules. Diaphragms had visible contamination and tensioning issues. The case these were shipped in contained loose metal filings and other debris. Unbelievably bad QC! Of course, I had to return the capsules for a refund.
