Still working fine after several years
I've owned this for several years now and it has always worked well. Mostly I've measured the db's of air conditioners and noisy neighbors to compare with the rules and regulations that apply, but I also measured the sound level of a PA/music system to show that the volume was too high to have a conversation over. Search for those levels online.

A Well Designed and Well Made Sound Level Meter
I purchased this product to adjust the sound levels from each of the speakers in my 7.1 surround sound system. The meter is very well made, easy to use, and gave reproducible results when measuring the output of all of my speakers. I liked the fact that the meter could be used in both A and C modes as the latter is required when measuring the output of speakers in a surround system. I had previously tried a less expensive sound level meter that had arrived dead on arrival. The Reed R8050 worked immediately upon removal from the box and insertion of batteries. This is clearly a case of you get wha you pay for. Highly recommended.

Simple and easy to use
Was purchased to measure noise levels on a boat and performed as expected. It's very easy to use and has a clear display. Will buy the associated calibration aid to aid long-term trust in the unit.

Can Help Prevent Hearing Loss From Loud Sounds
The meter is very simple to use and can help prevent permanent hearing loss. While little can be done currently to prevent age related hearing loss, one can take steps to prevent hearing loss from loud sounds like amplified music at home and in a car, power tools and appliances, and personal fireworks. I used this Reed sound meter to measure neighborhood fireworks on July 4, 2023. The measurement from hundreds of feet away was over 91 dB. The people setting them off were exposed to sound levels high enough to cause permanent hearing damage. Over time, the accumulated damage could require using hearing aids. The only negative is the wired 9V battery contacts. The contacts can be difficult to install and remove. Perhaps it is more reliable than a snap in 9V battery compartment, but I prefer it to the snap on contacts.

Reasonably Priced
I use this to meter the sound coming out of fire alarm horns to ensure the level meets code. This meter meets the requirements and is at a price that doesn't break the bank.

Five Stars
Very good. Measuring the loud road noise which I plan to present to my community council and the DOT.

Unable to calibrate using same brand calibrator
Purchased both this meter and the Reed brand calibrator. Followed the instructions to try to calibrate the meter and both screws under the battery broke off. More Chinese junk pretending to be an American company. Cannot return since it is not in the same condition as when it arrived. Waste of money.
