Crucial Laptop Install Kit 2.5" SSD

I upgraded my HP Envy laptop from a slow hard disk drive to an  Intel 330 Series Solid-State Drive 120 GB SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5-Inch - SSDSC2CT120A3K5  that I had been using in my desktop. Thanks to this product, the process was easy.I downloaded the latest version of the included cloning software from their website first (and I suggest you do the same). At first, the software was reporting some write errors during the cloning process. I checked their website and they said that you should run "chkdsk /r" in the command line first to repair any damaged sectors. I had to let that run overnight since the hard drive was so slow. The next morning, I restarted the cloning software and it finished cloning my hard drive to the SSD in 40 minutes without any errors. After that, I just opened up the laptop and replaced the HD with the SSD and the laptop booted up without any issues.What's nice is that I can re-use this product again in the future if I ever get a new laptop. It was well worth the money. My laptop boots and runs so much faster now... it is great.

If you are replacing the hard drive in your laptop or installing an SSD, then this Crucial Install Kit is for you!Physical installation is easy, just plug in the new hard drive or SSD onto the dongle (cable) and plug it into a USB port. The software asks you to ID the source drive and target drive and then it seamlessly migrates your data from the old drive to the new. I didn't have to re-install any software or recover files from backup onto the new drive since everything was all there when I booted from it. I would highly recommend purchasing the Crucial Install Kit. It worked great cloning my laptop's hard drive to my new SSD.However, there are a couple of things to be aware of:1) The dongle is REQUIRED in order for the cloning software to work. If you try to clone 2 internal drives you will get an error stating it can't find the Apricorn Device.2) If you connect a full-size hard drive (desktop drive) to the Apricorn dongle, it will not spin up when connected to the USB port. I didn't have time to search for a solution to this problem (I suspect the full-size hard drive needs +12v not the +5v available via the USB). A laptop's hard drive works just fine on the dongle.

The included software for transfer from this kit is Apricorn EZ Gig IV. The cable supplied will spin up a 2.5" harddrive or an SSD. the software requires that the cable be plugged in but not for it to be actually used for the transfer of data. To save time moving nearly a TB of data to an SSD, I plugged the cable into a host computer and directly wired the HDD and the SSD to the motherboard for a faster file copy since the cable operates at USB 2.0 speed max. Before approaching your transfer like this, be sure to boot into windows and use the CD to create a boot USB flash drive or CD.Silly of me to try, but I hoped in vain that the Apricorn software would be able to successfully ghost my HDD with operating system (Win 8.1) to the SSD while that windows install was booted up. It won't transfer correctly fwiw but you probably already knew better.One star off for the included CD not being bootable... seems sloppy or lazy that it wasn't so you could just connect the cable and SSD, reboot or start your system off of the CD and get transferring.

It's a good way of porting your data to your new drive. Fast, easy, and hassle free. Simply plug your new drive to the USB cable, insert the disc, and run the app, and presto, within 20 to 30 minutes depending on the storage capacity of your old drive, you have a new and fast SSD drive running in your machine. Then all there is to do now is change the old drive for the new one and you have a new machine, running at top speeds. There are free cloning programs in the net to choose from, it's up to you...

This item is quite usable, BUT.... there are a few "Crucial Laptop Kits", and this is NOT the one with Acronis True Image HD, for that version, look for the kit with the right angle connector for SATA. This kit is NOT USB 3.0, so this wont be a fast copy by any means. The software will ONLY copy to a drive connected to this adapter, so no slick bypass by using it in a desktop...it will be SLOW, but it will copy OEM partitions on your drive as well, for restoring if needed. (at least it did for the old Dell I used it on) The package was a factory sealed kit, well built, with authentic labeled disc, what I'd expect from Crucial. Tested on Windows XP (oem) and Vista (retail) so far, and both systems booted. Linux Mint 15 did have trouble recognizing the partitions in GParted after using the software, but was able to see the drives on the desktop. SSD is new technology and the Linux glitch may be a result of unrelated issues. Overall, its a good kit, but might or might not suit your needs.

This may be a good product but the instructions are stunningly vague. There is no CD. There are instructions to download the installation software from the Crucial website. There appear to be 3 basic steps: Clone your hard drive to the SSD, Install the SSD, Update your (SSD?) firmware. There is no guidance as to which order these steps are to be taken. I tried cloning the hard drive while it was in my laptop but gave up after the software spend over an hour with the message that it was initialing the setup. I could not find any information on Crucial's website that lead to a solution. Googling this issue lead to no consensus pointing to a solution. Like I said, it may be a good product but I won't know until I get it installed and cloned. (Or is it cloned and then installed. Maybe I should ignore cloning and use the backup option that is in the software as suggested by some of the posts I read.)I should add that the SSD was for a Dell Inspiron 11 2in1 laptop, Series 3000, running Win10.

Aunque está diseñado para los SSD de Crucial, también puedes emplearlo para conectar discos duros convencionales. Viene el software para poder migrar de disco duro antiguo a uno de estado sólido o hacer copias de seguridad. Perfecto para los discos duros de la marca. El USB es 3.0 lo que te permitirá usarlo a mayor velocidad si dispones de dicho conector. Lo he utilizado con un portátil Toshiba con conectores USB 2.0 y funciona bien.El software que viene no es la versión mas moderna que existe, pero cumple perfectamente su competido para migrar completamente los datos de un disco duro a uno de estado sólido.Quizás lo peor que tenga es el precio, si vas a comprar un disco duro de esta sólido y ya tienes casi todo lo demás (cable SATA a USB normal) y un software de copias de seguridad, no necesitarás el kit para nada. Pero si no tienes nada te será imprescindible no solo para una vez sino para utilizarlo para mas ocasiones o con otros ordenadores.

Utilisé pour installer un SSD CRUCIAL M550 de 512 go sur mon Laptop ASUS. Le logiciel a détecté toutes les partitions, y compris la partition cachée de restauration. En passant par l'option manuel, j'ai pu choisir la taille des partitions et mieux repartir l'espace alloué au système. Vraiment génial l'application ACRONIS. L'adaptateur USB3 SATA est de bonne facture et dispose d'une led bleue qui indique son fonctionnement. Bref, sans ce kit cette opération aurait été bien plus compliquée... Un achat que je ne regrette pas, d'autant que le logiciel est utilisable pour d'autres fonctions que le clonage de disques.

Ho comprato questo prodotto insieme ad un Crucial M500 240gb. L'utilizzo è semplice ed intuitivo e non richiede competenze per effettuare una clonazione di un disco. Vivamente consigliato per chi non ha famigliarità con altri sistemi di clonazione dischi (CloneZilla per esempio). L'adattatore è semplicemente fantastico! Con questo kit ho potuto clonare in piena sicurezza il mio disco Crucial M500 120gb su quello nuovo da 240gb in meno di 8 minuti.Vivamente consigliato.

lo compre junto a un disco ssd de la misma marca, que despues descubrí que tambien incluia software para facilitar la copia/clonado del disco viejo, Asi que habría sido mas util comprar una caja externa normal.(pero su misión la cumplió perfectamente, eso si)
