Wonderfully complex characters and riveting plotlines -- Highly recommended
This is the beginning of the Deryni series, chronologically speaking. But just as folks started the Star Wars series with the original trilogy and then backtracked later, this series should also be read after reading other trilogies in the Deryni universe. Start with Deryni Rising, volume 1 in the Chronicles of the Deryni trilogy and finish that trilogy. Next, read the Histories of King Kelson series. Then you're ready to make the jump back to this series, the Legends of Camber of Culdi.I've read these books time and time again. Katherine Kurtz is by far my favorite author. She weaves spellbinding plots with amazingly complex character development. You'll feel like you've known these characters your whole life. I heartily recommend this author.

For the Greater Good
This is an older series which suffers from overwrought writing at times, however, the tale of bad deeds done for good , and the lesson that lies beget lies is timeless. OK for younger readers, no swearing, sex, etc.

Historical fantasy
Set in the very Catholic early Middle Ages, racial tensions, political intrigue and the ability to manipulate energy with the mind, a power indistinguishable from magic, combine to tell of the struggles between church and state and both the good and the evil in the human soul.

Excellent tales as always
The four stories in this edition are superb examples of high fantasy. Unfortunately, the formatting doesn't live up to that standard. There are a few typographic errors, but the REAL issue is that the short story Beltane is plunked down between Chapters Four and Five of Book Two!

Stunning!
Very sad ending original content was it just another beginning? Here you have the best and worst of two races that never understand each other so battle lines are drawn with both trying to destroy each in a so called religious fever. No one will be a clear winner but many will perish.

Prequel series to the Chronicles of the Deryni that explains ...
Prequel series to the Chronicles of the Deryni that explains how the Deryni kings were removed from power and the Haldanes were restored. A must read for fans of medieval history and epic fantasy.

Great the First Time, Even Better the Second
I enjoyed the series when it first came out. The intrigue is so interesting and keeps you reading. The only problem is that they list the lineage and you know when someone will die.

Great story
The story had me gripped from start of book 1 to the end of book 3. I read them first over 20 years ago, and they fully lived up to my memory of how good they were. If you like science fans say, you’ll like these!

Politics, religion and magic in a fantasy world based on history.
A complex story with very detailed descriptions which managed to join politics, magic and religion in a way that made sense and was believable.
