MATEIN Rolling Backpack, 17 inch Water Resistant Wheeled Laptop Backpack

I bought this bag for my college nursing bookload. In the past, I've also tended to carry in my school bags everything that I could ever conceivably need for any situation—this has been an issue on my back in the past, so a rolling backpack especially was important to me to get for that reason as well. I had bought another rolling backpack on Amazon before for a similar price, but it didn't have as many pockets as it first appeared, and the ones it did competed with the other pockets around it for space, so if you used one pocket then the rest would be inaccessible. With one minor exception, every pocket in this bag does not have this issue. There are a very large number of pockets in this bag, especially in the forward compartments, but there are still enough in the main compartment that I can keep my soft books, papers, and hard books all separate from one other. Even when it's cramped to capacity, the zipper holding the compartment together doesn't feel at any structural risk. The rod that runs through the back of the bag and into the handle is not separated from the main compartment's back by anything but a somewhat thin material, and you can feel through to it with a hand. There's a soft and thin styrofoam lining that helps keep it from jutting against the rest of what you might store in the main compartment, but the cloth separating back can be opened to put more stuffing there if you're worried about it. Putting more in there to buffer around the rod and make sure it doesn't push against your things shouldn't decrease space by much of anything. I haven't done anything with it yet, as the styrofoam lining is effective enough for me. The handle itself is a little bit testy sometimes when you try to push it back down, but that feels like such a nitpick compared to everything else the bag does well. It's surprisingly light on its own, and its backpack straps fold up extremely, extremely neatly so that you don't have to deal with fighting them ever. They attach to the bottom of the bag by a stable hook when you want to use them, and they can detach to tuck away tightly and completely when you're done with them. There's no having to feed them through straps and adjusting and readjusting them each time you want to put them on. I only switch this to be a backpack on my back when I'm trudging through snow for up to fifteen minutes, but I don't find getting it together very difficult. It's not comfortable when worn that way, but this bag has the most effective design I can think of for backpack straps on what should generally be a rolling backpack. It has two bottle holders on each side of the bag which are made out of cloth on the bottom with more mesh towards the top. They're very sturdy, and so far I haven't had issues with putting water bottles in either one, so long as it doesn't have a really weirdly large base. I'm not afraid of this part of the bag breaking over time: it's not flimsy at all. Another small thing about the extended handle is that it's surprisingly not uncomfortable to use as someone who's 5'3", but there's a lot of room that I think that someone much taller than me wouldn't be uncomfortable at all using it. I'm on the very shorter end of comfortable use. The bag is capable of handling water (or, well, melted fallen snow, from where I'm from) to an extent, but I don't think you could throw it in a pool. It's just the kind of water resistant that you would hope to expect from a good backpack, where it can handle the elements to a reasonable (but not magical) extent. I jam this thing full of stuff. Occasionally, I have to put it in a tall and narrow school locker. It fits in perfectly neatly, and I don't have to fight to pull it out. It kind of shocked me when I first saw it manage that. Given its surprising quality, I would struggle to justify buying a different bag at this price point. I can't think of any particular issues other than what I mentioned further up. I don't really post reviews, but I feel obligated to post one to glow about this backpack because it's been just so reliable. I'll return to this review in a few months to update it based on how the backpack holds up over time.

I bought this bag to take on a 10 day trip to Europe. I took what I needed for about half of the time because I was able to do laundry about halfway through my trip. I really wanted something I could wheel as much as possible, but still had the option to carry when walking long distances or getting on and off congested transport. I also wanted a bag that would “count” as a carry on for my flights with British Airways, Air France, and Whizzair. This bag fit the sizing restrictions for all 3 airlines and I had no trouble loading it into the overhead bins. The bag rolled very smoothly in the various airports and train stations I travelled through and the wheels are still in great shape after 10 rigorous days of travel to 5 different cities. It did take some trial and error to get the strap length just right so they did not hurt my shoulders as the padding did leave a little bit to be desired, but I found a comfortable set up eventually. I did not use any packing cubes and I was able to pack a swimsuit, 6 pairs of socks, 6 boxers, 6 t-shirts, 4 pairs of shorts, and 3 pairs of jeans (I am 6’6,” so some pretty big pairs of jeans) all in the main compartment along with my quart size toiletry bag. In the compartment on top of the main one I put a pair of flip flops, a quart sized bag with electronics in it, a deflated, inflatable neck pillow, my iPad and my puffer jacket folded up into quarters along with a 25l soft backpack I used for day trips. I did not put much in the two smaller compartments on the front to prevent the possibility of pick pocketing as I carried this bag on public transport in some very busy cities. In the bottom compartment on the front I did put my passport inside the zipper pocket inside the compartment so it was packed behind 2 layers and I put my $5 sunglasses in the top outer compartment when I didn’t want them in my pocket. Overall, the size and weight of this bag worked perfectly for me and the wheels worked great! The handle felt sturdy and was long enough for me to pull even though I am pretty tall. Despite all I had packed, the bag was not bulging and was still pretty easy to zip up. I will be using this bag for all of my trips going forward as it still looks brand new! I even saw other travelers with this bag during my trip!

Update mid 2026. This bag has survived well. Review, 2024OK, I have used this bag through major trips. I followed the tips about putting zip ties on the zippers. the rolling aspect. has really helped me because I have significant back issues. I travel with a bungee cord to squeeze it tighter I have a smaller bungee cord so that I could attach something to it like a pillow(I put a hook on the pillow so that the bungee cord can grab it) I bought locks so that if I leave it in the hotel, and I need to put some valuables in it that don’t fit in the safe. I like the two side pockets. I use one for liquids. I need walking sticks. I bought trail buddy from Amazon, they collapse and I slip them down right into the compartment where the handle pulls out that you pull the backpack with. they are still sticking out, but, I have never had a problem entering a plane with this. They are mobility devices. And won’t fit INSIDE this backpack. One of the zipper pulls broke off on my second trip I haven’t had it out in much rain, but it feels like it would be very resistant. The only improvement I would highly recommend and am attempting to find now -is a trolley strap that would allow me to attach this to a larger suitcase. When you try that with this one, it rolls around and everything is very unstable I never had any trouble getting on any airplane with it despite how full it is. A game changer for me was, I put my day pack, -a smaller backpack inside this large one so that when I get onto the plane, I can just pull out the daypack without holding up the entire loading plane re-organizing. and in the day pack are all the items that I need to have at my disposal while I’m seated. this has worked very well. additionally, I put in the front zippers, the items in plastic bags, and the electronics that I need to pull out while going through security. I don’t like big water jugs so I travel with a normal size empty plastic water bottle but I refill it so I show up at security with it empty and then I go to a water fountain and make sure it’s filtered water and then refill it. Entering the plane with water. I flew last week and we had to wait endlessly for them to bring us a half filled glass of water and I can’t stand spending five dollars on a bottle of water. The MATEIN Rolling Backpack is a great find! It has many pockets and compartments. The color is not bright or drab. The wheels make it easy to transport and it is stable on the wheels. The zippers are sturdy and easy to use. I am looking forward to using this backpack for many years!

I purchased this for my grandson last year after he had back surgery. This year I asked if you wanted a new backpack and he was adamant that he receive this one. He loved how versatile it was. He was able to pull it if he needed to or carry it. This is a quality backpack.

Excellente qualité de fabrication. Les dimensions sont 50cm x 23cm x 33cm et le poids 2.2 kg. J'aurais aimé que le compartiment principal soit plus logeable (il a 6" au niveau des roues et 4" près de la poignée). J'aurais aimé avoie 6" d'un bout à l'autre afin d'y loger plus de vêtements ou autre.

Increíble mochila que puede usarse como maleta. Super práctica y muy amplia. Bastante buena para viajes cortos o de estancia media en otra ciudad.
