Mi Amor Legacy Appliqué

Margarete Heinisch says her daughter's admiration of a Baltimore album quilt at a local quilt show, "set off the first spark" in the back of her head to create her own album quilt. "Mi Amor" is the result of that spark, a gift celebrating the 25th wedding anniversary of her daughter and son-in-law. Each block in this magnificent quilt, symbolizes in some way, their life together. All I can say is, wow, what a lovely gift and magnificent legacy.A CD-ROM containing all the templates, embroidery stitching, and layout diagrams for each block (to print out) is included. The book begins with detailed and illustrated instructions for fabric requirements, additional supplies (such as batting, embroidery floss, etc.), fabric shortcuts (among others, the author suggests appliqueing silk leaves from artificial flowers), different ways to make stems, how to make circles, embroidery stitches (running stitch, fly stitch, back stitch, stem or outline stitch, couching stitches, buttonhole stitch, lazy daisy stitch, buttonhole scallops, straight stitch, satin stitch, French knot, bullion stitch, seed stitch, and turkey work), making yo-yo flowers, making rickrack flowers, embroidering ladybugs & potato bugs, using fabric paints, assembling the quilt, adding borders, adding corded piping, and finishing the quilt.Each of the 16 blocks is explained and illustrated in detail with the fabric requirements, supplies, sewing instructions, painting (if any) instructions, and an embroidery stitching chart (shows stitches used, thread color, etc.) I appreciated and found very interesting the explanation given of the symbolism behind each block.The book concludes with what I thought was a fascinating explanation of the meaning of the flowers used in the blocks, such as: the olive branch means peace, tulip means beautiful eyes, nest means security, and so forth.This book has sparked my imagination and provoked my thoughts toward creating my own legacy quilt with blocks symbolizing my family's life story.

This book is magnificent! If you adore applique, then this is a must-have book for a quilting library. The quilt is so detailed, unique and nothing less than remarkable. The CD provides full-size patterns. Cool! The book is NOT for beginners or even intermediate quilters, in my opinion. The author assumes that the reader has lots of knowledge about applique techniques. If one is considering buying the book, it is well worth the price, but "let the buyer beware" about the directions included. There are tons of tips that are very helpful for doing embellishments and creating special effects for the quilt. I can use these even though I am a beginning Baltimore Album-style quilter. I can only dream of making this quilt one day, but I have set my sights on it!

Love that this book with highly detailed patterns comes with a digital source of patterns, as you will likely want to be able to adjust size of squares depending on how much detail you choose to include. Next printing of the book should include a thumb drive or other electronic means, just because most computers no longer have drives, but nice to be able to access them in this way. This book is a must have for anyone that loves applique. It's inspirational, beautifully photographed and instructive. The close up of the blocks are stunning in detail. The author combines so many elements and wonderful decorative hand stitching to embellish the blocks. A true artist in her craft.

This book on appliqué is fantastic. Can't wait to make this quilt. It will be a great learning experience and push my quilting to another level. I love the examples she gives for each step in each block. Also, the embroidery steps are quite clear. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to make the whole quilt or just one block as a beautiful wall hanging.

Lovely designs - highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Baltimore Album style applique quilts. Make one or many blocks - frame, quilts, pillows, tote bags - the projects you can make with these designs are endless.

What a truly beautiful book, very personal in many ways but full of beautiful patterns you can make your own. The standard and quality of the applique is phenomenal. The flowers, especially the roses, look so real. Perhaps not the book to learn to applique, but a confident beginner should be able to manage some of the projects.

I like this book because I like applique quilts in general but was disappointed that this was about a particular project in its entirety. But since it's a sampler, one can use whatever block you like to design a one of a kind quilt. Nothing wrong with the book, it's just that I prefer having several projects to look at.

Me gusta mucho este libro, contiene dieciséis diseños (potada) en los que destacaría el brillante uso del color y sobre todolas texturas que la autora consigue con la mezcla de diferentes telas y técnicas de bordado a mano. Instrucciones (inglés)muy especificas en cuanto a los colores a utilizar y útiles diagramas para los bordados. Por ponerle un pero, los patronesvienen en un CD-ROM adjunto al libro, lo que te obliga a tener impresora a mano.

Beautiful work but no patterns. The disc does not work in my computer!!!
