Sony Camera worth the money
Still learning about this camera. You get allot for your money. If you do corporate, documentaries or weddings this is a great camera. We use this as a secondary camera and it's great for travel, because of it's size. The depth of field on this camera is great. If you don't have allot of experience with cameras you can use all the automatic features and if you have experience the manual settings are easy to use. The camera has a steady shot feature for hand held shots and works very well. Another great feature is the ability to use prime lenses on this camera. Another good feature is the ability to record to a SD card and to a hard drive. The flash drive is extra but worth it,as you get a back up and if you transfer from the flash drive instead of the card your bit rate is higher since there is less compression. I would highly recommend this camera. You get allot of camera for the price. From: Victor Sieff-VS Video Productions in Denver,Colorado

Excellent equipment for the price
Excellent equipment for the price! It truly is close to a professional model. Love the interchangeable E mount lens (which I ordered several different types). Still picture quality is great! And the audio quality is amazing with the boom mic! The "UH" model came with all kinds of additional accessories! Still getting used to it, but the quality is very nice even in auto! Still photo at 16MP is clear. I'm glad I decided to get this model instead of the small camcorder. It's big, but worth it for me. With tripod and all the different accessories even an amateur like me can take a nice video of my daughter's recitals.Only thing I wish this model had: a plain timer counter reset switch/button. I have to go to menu and select reset every time I need to reset the timer counter. Love the built in color bar generator! This is a nice unit!

Weight distribution is perfect for hand held filming
I want it replacement for my DSR-PD170: HD format, removable recording media and capability to use 24p, NEX-EA50UH fit the bill. Went thru lot of reviews and I bought it. My old Sony batteries fit - a big plus, and when loaded with all attachments, memory pack and large battery,NEX-EA50UH its larger and feels heavier then PMD-170. Weight distribution is perfect for hand held filming, Slide out shoulder support, not very practical for me. I do mostly corporate and some indie projects. S far its awesome, almost everything like PMD170. I wish it had built-in ND filters. But overall its best value for the money..

Great camera with the ergonomics to handle a long day of filming. If you do a lot of event videos, this is the perfect camera.

A no-brainer at this price! And a body the rest should learn from!
For the price this camera is a great deal. I've been using it since it came out and am very happy. If you are tired of trying to rig up a DSLR to shoot video then the EA50 is a breath of fresh air. It can do those shallow depth of field shots easily and even has the ability to focus shift via the touch screen. It has proper XLR audio jacks with phantom power and can record in PCM or Dolby Digital audio quality. It can shoot 24P, 30P, 60i and 60P at 1080 plus a slew of other optons in 720P and SD. The kit lens isn't great in low light but does well enough well if you don't zoom in much since it has clean gain. I've taken the camera in many states shooting landscape and nature footage as well as shooting corporate videos, weddings, sports, dance recitals and chroma key shots. The lens can be servo zoomed like a traditional camcorder as well as manually zoomed which works great when shooting sports. Manual focus is a breeze thanks to the sharp LCD, focus peaking and large focus ring. I find autofocus to work well even when doing fast manual zooms. Also, the traditional Sony LANC zoom controllers such as Varizoom work with this camera in case you need to remotely control it such as on a Jib.It's a CMOS APS-C sensor but I haven't had issues with rolling shutter. It is VERY useful to be able to shoot HD video and with a press of a button switch to still mode to take 16MP photos and back and forth all with one camera! It uses the old tried and true Sony batteries which makes things easy and has lots of space to attach things unlike a traditional hand held camcorder or DSLR. Plus it looks like a serious (expensive) camera. I've had many positive remarks in several states from people admiring it.Frankly the form factor is what the rest of the cameras should be like instead of the horrible ergonomics of the FS1000, C100, C300, FS700, Black Magic and etc.. Manufacturers need to make cameras more user friendly like the EA50 and AF100.Sure, the EA50 isn't ergonomically perfect as it is front heavy, but it CAN BE shoulder mounted nicely with the extendable pad and a counterweight. It would be nice if it had built-in ND but hardly anything does unless you pay much more. The lack therof really hasn't been an issue. If I need shallow DOF on a bright sunny day then I screw on a ND filter. Most of the time I don't need the ND filters with it anyway.I wish they would offer a really good low light servo zoom E-mount lens but as of yet they haven't so we are stuck with various other options. Because really, the low light weddings are the only cause for concern with this camera but that can be remedied by changing out the lens. In fact you can slap on an f/1.8 prime lens and still have a good 2X in-camera zoom thanks to the fact that the sensor is capable of more pixels than 1920X1080 so it allows those extra pixels to be used for a near lossless zoom. It's so much easier to work with a camera design like this than the horrid "box with a lens" design that virtually all the other large sensor cameras are. I hope Sony or someone else decides to follow the design of the EA50 in a future model. Imagine a Black Magic sensor in an EA50 body!!It has a locaton to attach the FMU flash memory unit for a backup recording but what would be GREAT is if that could be used to attach a flash recorder that could do a higher bit rate such as ProRes or something in 4:2:2 color. THe FMU is a good idea but I find too costly though it is nice to have the peace of mind of a convenient, easy backup recording.I recently bought a Ninja Blade external recorder that mounts easily on the EA50 and can be remotely triggered via hdmi. The ninja works well to take the detailed full raster 1080 image the camera is capable of and record it in a more robust ProRes or DNxHD codec for those jobs where you really need extra color lattitude in post such as heavy color grading or chroma keying. Quite frankly the AVCHD in-camera recording is so good that I only use the external recorder if I really want to push the color in post a lot which again says a lot for the EA50.
