Essential Component to Emergency First Aid Kit
I am a former EMT and Combat Medic; I keep well stocked emergency kits in my automobile, home, and workshop. CELOX is an essential component to them and must be replaced every few years to ensure freshness. A small price to pay for life-saving equipment if needed!

If you carry a firearm regularly, you have a higher probability of being shot, whether accidentally or intentionally.
This product is perfect for deep-puncture arterial bleeds from any mechanism of injury, when standard, direct-pressure, bleed-stanching techniques are inadequate. This is especially true when time is of the essence while transporting the injured out of the zone of imminent danger.CELOX is an effective high-performance hemostatic material. It is a proprietary marine biopolymer chitosan designed to stop high-volume arterial bleeding. CELOX hemostatic can be used for various applications from deep arterial bleeds to superficial wounds.Celox Controls Major Arterial BleedingCELOX’s unusual properties have been confirmed in wound models, where they have repeatedly demonstrated the ability to rapidly control major arterial bleeding (without cautery) from traumatic wounds. The granular presentation provides a simple, quick and effective way to stop bleeding and is particularly useful in treating difficult and deep wounds. A clot forms at the site of the injured blood vessel within minutes after pouring the product into the wound. Excess granules form a gelled mass to protect the clot. The gelled material is easy to remove. No Known Side EffectsCELOX hemostatic does not generate any heat nor does it embed itself into the wound. CELOX is derived from shellfish but is not known to cause allergic reaction.Works on All Blood TemperaturesCELOX works whether blood temperature is 98.7°F (37.05°C) or 65.4 F (18.5 °C).Works on Heparinized BloodCELOX hemostatic works on heparinized blood because it works independently of blood clotting factors.Lightweight, Portable, Easy to AdministerCELOX granules are lightweight, packaged in sterilized, sealed packets that are easy and fast to open. CELOX is to be poured into the wound and held down with gauze for 5 minutes. A compression bandage is then wrapped over the gauze covered wound and patient can be transported.Depending on your state's laws, be sure that whoever administers this product is trained, qualified, certified and licensed to perform invasive procedures, if so required. Always get the patient's consent for any direct application of this product. Also, if and when the product is deployed, conspicuously tape the empty packaging close to the administration site so that emergency trauma surgical personnel will know that this product is in the victim's wound. The design of this product is well thought out, and the directions for use are clear, simple, and easy to remember. Carry this product on your person in a place not likely to sustain damage from impact or repetitive friction abrasion. It's vacuum sealed in moisture-resistant packaging, so don't worry about rain or body vapor damaging it.This product is like a tourniquet; you may never need it. But if you carry a gun, you have an obligation to reasonably defend it rather than relinquish it as the victim of a crime. This posture significantly increases your chances of being a gun crime victim, and hence, of being shot as a result. If you're not radio-equipped with instant access to priority EMS dispatch, take a number and join the cue during the confusion of a melee. Experienced hunters in rural areas know this intuitively. You'll need every advantage of beating an arterial bleed risk this product will give you while waiting for EMS response from half a county away.I carry this product in addition to the "patrol officer's pocket trauma kit", and a 6" Israeli compression bandage. Yep, get the big one, because the exit wounds from high-velocity hollow point bullets can be horrendous, and close-range shotgun blasts speak for themselves. If it's too inconvenient to carry this much gear, you shouldn't be carrying a gun in the first place. Let someone who's up to the responsibilities of the task do it instead.

These are expensive but how much is your life worth
I luckily never had a chance to test these out. I bought a set of chest vent seals to go along with this kit. I would still recommend carrying at least one tourniquet if not two with you in case you have to use this item.

Used in the operating room for years
So I used to be a medical sales rep and we sold a product like this called floseal. Its collagen derived granules and topical thrombin. It is placed on the tissue at the base of the wound. Blood then percolates thru the granules and is exposed to high levels of thrombin. Thrombin converts the fibrinogen into a fibrin polymer which then forms a clot around the mechanically stable matrix provided by the granules. In the operating room the excess granules are gently irrigated away. It is resorbed by the body within 6-8 weeks,...normal wound heal time. This works in a similar fashion, except rather than using thrombin (Bovine derived) it uses a finely ground sea shell. The only difference I can see, is that this requires you to use pressure after applying.

Applicator not fully capped before opening package
I store this celox applicator in a duty bag and have yet to use it. I was changing out medical supplies In my bag and pulled out the unopened celox applicator. I could heard powder shaking around in the sealed package, when I opened the package to check. The end of the applicator cap was off and the celox powder granules were all over the bag, making the supplies useless. The applicator had no granules in it when opened. Be care when storing this even in a sealed package the cape may come undone..
