X10 MS14A EXTERIOR MOTION SENSOR- ( 4087 )

Bought this motion sensor to detect animals coming on our deck at night. It works great but also detects the wind blowing the grill cover and rocking chairs. The only way to adjust the sensitivity is to place narrow strips of black electricians tape on each side of the detection window to narrow the detection field.. After several nights of trial and error I found the sweet spot and it works fine.This unit can be set to detect day and night or just night. The range I am using is around 10 feet between sensor and receiver.

Item was in its' box but did not have the usual plastic bag around it.The box was Scotch taped closed.PLEASE don't call this new!

I’ve been using x10 technology for over 20 years. It’s been around for longer than that. Even though smartphone apps and WiFi switches have exploded in popularity in recent years, I’m still holding on to this old technology. I’ve converted most of my home lighting to WiFi switching but my outdoor lighting works best with one of these. Soffit lights on the front entry way and garage screen enclosure are still working great with the MS14A. Just put one of these anywhere you want! I even have a extra one by the front door that works with a plug in sounder module. Great for the backyard when ordering food or waiting for someone.

I use these outdoors and they have very few false trips. I have been moving my home automation from X10 to Zwave, but I can't get away from these X10 units because they are so reliable. You get a couple of years out of the batteries also.Shipping was 4 days instead of 2 days even though it says Prime.

GENERALLY works OK but the units transmitted signal is very weak and causes reception problems with other x-10 products. X-10 USED to offer Signal Boosters for this unit but no longer offer them.. They are REALLY needed

Was a little concerned that the device had been subjected to excessive moisture. The box has some strange water marks on the outside, But the inside appears fine. Will follow up if I have any troubles after installation. PS this device has a screw that holds the battery cover in place. All my others had just a snap in cover.

OK. Doesn't seem to have the sensitivity or range of the previous sensor it replaced. Probably best for inside use.

Let me start by saying I been using X10 products for about 13 years. They have traveled with me and I am so used to turning lights on and off with a remote I would not know how to even work a switch :-) This serves the purpose of sitting on my porch and turning my porch light on and off when someone walks up. It wasn't easy to program but it wasn't that difficult. You just have to pay close attention to the wording in the directions as everything is pressing a sequence of buttons in a certain sequence to achieve programming. I believe taking the batteries out starts the process over SO KEEP THE DIRECTIONS or you ll be using code A1 as it is the default housecode A Module #1.
