The Bisexual Option: Second Edition

A light in the dark, back in the day.
Amazing. Purchased this book well after I saw Fritz Klein in person. The most interesting part? The Klein Scale. Different than most. Includes past behavior, present behavior, desired behavior. It is dated in some ways. There was nothing available when I was growing up. You were either really gay and not there yet. Or you were simply experimenting and would 'straighten' up shortly. Remember guys who thought they could fix me. Ha. 40years later...still the same. This book is for those of us who choose partners by what's in their head vs what's in their pants.

Fantastic book. Have to admit
This book taught me more than a year of counseling!! Fantastic book. Have to admit, though, the first couple of chapters are rather dry, but it picks up and gets really good.

The first and foremost
This book is the first to really explore bisexuality as a real, substantial idea. It is the best book out there to help someone figure themselves out. It's pages are thick with truly objective, unbiased information, and it can be very liberating to read. It is a must read for anyone who feels they don't quite fit quite at either end of the sexual spectrum.

Great starter
This is the very first book I ever read on bisexuality. Since then I've found better books on the subject, but this is still a book I'll put my nose into again. The reason it's not the "best" is because I didn't relate to most of the bisexuals Klein interviewed. It was kind of a downer, some of the uptite bis in this book. Then again, he didn't interview very many people. Especially compared to "Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out". Now that is a book where I related to many more of the people. Just goes to show we (bis) are all different. I will always have a lot of respect for Fritz Klein and found his scale on bisexuality very good. Although I don't agree who we prefer to socialize with has anything to do with orientation. I could enjoy a cup of coffee with anyone, that says zilch about orientation! Other than that, I liked the scale. This is an interesting read, for the most part.

I would recommend looking for a more up-to-date book on bisexuality
I would recommend looking for a more up-to-date book on bisexuality. The content is very dated, not edited, and contains lots of non-scientific data.

Need to know basis
This is an important part of the Bisexual living. Bisex 101 you could say. How to plot your sexual preference and lifestyle in a scientific way. To further expand your knowledge there are newer books though, but can't hurt to have this one.

The odd interesting idea but largely uninteresting twaddle.
Its a sad fact that when you try to find books on bisexuality the results are nearly always erotica. Says it all, really. This is one of the few books I managed to find which took a serious approach. However, it still wasn't what I was looking for. This book is largely a series of interviews with bisexual people, they are speaking to the therapist, Mr Klein. The interviews are decades old . That doesn't mean they don't have something to tell us but still, the very fact they are just individual experiences is problematic. I sought more scientific explanations, I want to know why it is that some people are capable of having sex with both sexes? To what extent is this nature or nurture?Arguably, the closest Klein comes to this is his explanation of the positive and negative Oedipus complex. The argument runs that the bisexual must resolve both where as a straight male would simply have to overcome the mother fancying.Plus, he introduces his own Klein scale and compares it to the Kinsey scale. The former includes past, present and ideal variables which seems like a good idea but hardly helps the Bisexual. I did appreciate that he identifies the different types of attraction. So for example, you could be more sexually attracted to men but more emotionally attracted to women. Klein then starts looking at the bisexual in books and films and I must admit I didn't bother to read the Appendix that detailed these. I can watch these films, read the books- why bother? In short, none on my questions are answered. Why, on different occasions, have I gotten drunk and slept with female friends (even having a very short relationship) yet seem to prefer men when it comes down to it? How do we explain that in the ancient world the labels of gay, bisexual etc didn't exist and it was the different acts themselves that labelled you? Is it the case that we are all bisexual at heart but that most people owing to 'norms' of society etc just pick their preferred lane and stay in it? I find I'm still baffled.
