AstroAI Digital Multimeter TRMS 4000 Counts(Auto Ranging and Manual)

I have many years under my belt as an electronics engineer diagnosing component level faults on pcb's and I am used to much more expensive DVM's (digital voltmeters) so I feel qualified to review this one. First off the price is really cheap so I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised that is wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. It's quite light in the hand but feels well made, mostly hard plastic with a hard rubberised outer case which should negate some drops and bangs. The bale stand on the back is flimsy and will probly break if flexed the wrong way too much so just be gentle with it and it should be okay. The screw which holds the battery cover / stand on goes in to a brass insert and not just screwed in to plastic so thats nice. The screen is easy to read at different angles and has nice large numbers on and while isn't the quickest at updating its okay considering the price. The test leads are fine and work okay for general use I cant comment on battery life as I have not had it long, this review is first impressions. I have attached some pictures where I tested the accuracy of this DVM, the DMM Check Plus was Calibrated recently and I checked it with one of my Flukes just before testing the AstroAI DT132A and the Fluke read spot on for each of the tests. The tests performed were AC & DV volts , AC & DC mA and Resistance, you can see the results for yourself.

I bought this to replace my previous Maplin autoranging meter after that died when the batteries leaked. The autoranging makes using this easy, and i particularly like that DC Volts and AC Volts are selected by different positions on the dial - so i don't need an additional 'function' button press to select the right one - which is an issue on many other multimeters. The continuity function works well - quick to react and easy to hear. I also like that this model includes a temperature probe - a useful feature for checking fridges, freezers, and ovens. The display is big and clear, but as previous reviewers have pointed out - the illumination only stays on for a few seconds which might be an issue if you need to use it in dimly lit areas for a prolonged period (my last meter was just the same in this respect). On the other hand, if it stayed on much longer i guess the batteries wouldn't last long. The unit itself is a conveniently compact size compared to other meters, but with a good sized display, making it pleasant to handle. Subjectively, i think this meter takes slightly longer to display a reading than my last one, but it also seems to settle and give a stable reading better. Another advantage compared to other meters is that it can measure up to 500ma on the fused input before having to move the lead to the 10A input. Many other meters can only handle 200ma. The leads seem OK - not too delicate. But i'll keep my old ones as spares just in case. Pleased with the purchase so far - it cost half what the last meter did - and i purchased that 16 years ago!

Works well. Handy tool for checking electrical connections. Everything and more your average diy’er could possibly need.

Meter does exactly as it should. Good build quality. Easy to read screen. Good clear instruction booklet. Good value for money. Of all the makes and models out there I am happy I settled on this one, having watched a very comprehensive review and test on YouTube (jazztechUK).

I am no expert by any means. I have bought it to Carry out routine checks around the house as a DIY person. I wanted a Multimeter and had a good search around, reading a lot of reviews and watching few YouTube videos. After an intensive research, I reached a conclusion that if you are a professional then go for the expensive brand like Fluke and it will last you for a life time. On the other hand if you are a DIY person and use it occasionally then AstroAI has so much to offer for a fraction of cost. I picked it up on prime deals for under £20 and it does everything I ever want it to do. Due to Covid 19, my car had been on my drive for months and despite starting Engine and leaving it running for several minutes, I still had a dead battery. I just wanted to check if battery is still good enough to re charge so I bought it and after charging my battery over night. I took a reading and hurray it is still keeping 13.7 watt charge which shows that battery cells are still healthy hence no need to buy a new battery yet. It is also very effective solution to check fuses and even AA or AAA batteries to see if they are new or used. I have already tried it on few things and I am very happy so far with this Multimeter. Word of warning Do not use it on household electrics unless you are a qualified electrician as tools in wrong hands can be lethal.

I already have other multimeters, which frankly feel better built, but for all their functions and accuracy none happen to have a max/min function. I wanted to leave a meter in series with my car battery for a day to see if any modules were waking up when they shouldn't be and causing it to lose charge. Once the car has gone to sleep I can press the Max button and when I come back at the end of the day it'll show the highest value. (Hint - not mentioned in the user manual but I found you can disable Auto Power Off by holding down Select whilst turning it on. It'll beep 5 times and then power up without APO displayed on the screen. It'll then beep 5 times every 15 minutes as a reminder rather than turning itself off. APO is restored next time you turn it on) If you need Max/Min capture then this DT132A is an absolute bargain. If you don't need that then there are other cheap meters around that feel a bit more robust. I'd suggest Uni-T, having had a couple of their meters for a few years now. Their UT890C is currently the same price here on Amazon.

Those who know what these do will understand, this is a great multimeter that I was lucky to purchase during Amazon prime so around £16, but at £20 this is great value. It has all the features that other multimeter have BUT with the added sound which for continuity checks is really handy as you don't have to look at the display all the time. But is super easy to read and works really well, really happy with this as it will make repaires a lot easier.

Nu kunde jag mäta lite startkondensatorer. Hur bra som helst. Blir bra i min verktygslåda för el arbete.

Das Gerät ist für den Hausgebrauch absolut in Ordnung, liegt gut in der Hand und läßt sich auch mit nur einer Hand bedienen. Einzig die Anordnung der Meßbereiche ist "unvorteilhaft", wenn man für relativ häufig benötigte Funktionen wie die Widerstandsmessung oder Durchgangsprüfung zusätzlich noch die Select Taste drücken muß, während für esoterische Funktionen wie Hz oder Temperatumessung jeweils gleich zwei Meßbereiche verschenkt worden sind. Aber bei dem Preis kann man großzügig darüber hinwegsehen. Sollte der Hersteller eine Neuauflage planen, darf er mich gerne kontaktieren und ich teile sehr gerne meine Verbesserungsvorschläge zur Bedienung mit.
