Superior Design – Flank Gripping – Heavy Duty Sockets – Bargain price for this quality
Superior Design – Flank Gripping – Heavy Duty Sockets – Bargain for this qualityThis is a very complete SAE and Metric ¼” socket set. The set kit includes a really nice short arc stroke ¼” ratchet wrench, extensions, short and deep sockets, and a universal. The kit includes a nice blow molded box. The box has a superior design such that the top half lid holds the sockets in clips so that you don’t spill sockets when you open the lid. The box has secure latches and good hinges, but the box does not have a carry handle. This is a bargain price for this kit.Of course, the most important part of this kit is the quality of the sockets. These 6 point sockets have the most modern design for the best grip. Please see the attached photographs to understand the superior modern socket design.I have a lot of heavy duty “professional mechanics only” name brand sockets like Proto, SnapOn, Mac Tools, and etc. that I have been using for decades to make a lot of money. However, those sockets are “old school” design with sharp angle corners in the 6 point sockets. Of course, a 6 point socket grips much better than a 12 point socket such that a 6 point socket is the go to tool for tight frozen fasteners. This wonderful new modern design of a 6 point socket has radiused inside socket corners instead of the old school sharp angle corners. Unfortunately, this superior design does not have a rigorously defined name. Some of the names are “side gripping”, “flank gripping”, or simply “radiused inside corner” sockets.A 12 point socket will round over the 6 corners of a stuck fastener making it almost impossible to remove. To save your bacon you then use one of these superior new design radiused inside corner sockets like these to break loose the stuck bolt with the rounded corners. Or better for high torque applications always use this new kind of inside radiused corner socket to NOT round over the fastener corners in the first place. To better explain this superior design, I have attached some drawings to show the twisting torque force being applied to the side flanks of the fastener. The concept is that radiused corners in the socket opening allow the socket inside sides, and not the sharp angle corners, to apply force to a fastener's flat sides, rather than the fastener’s corners to prevent ruined fastener corner Round-Off problems.I sure wish I have a tool box full of these new fangled sockets when I first started out.

They listened - MUCH better!
I ended up looking at other brands because of the negative opinions of the ratchet wrench in the old version of this kit. I am glad that I eventually settled on this updated version, even though it is a little more expensive. At the time of purchase, the difference was a little over $5, but well worth it. Now the difference is only $2, so it is a no-brainer.What do you get for the extra money though? Well 4 extra metric sockets (4mm & 4.5mm, normal and deep sockets). These might sound odd sizes, but I have already needed mine... The main difference however must be the ratchet wrench. In the old set, there were many criticisms of it - Apparently they listened very closely, because the wrench in here shows none of those problems. It has 90 teeth in the ratchet per complete turn, so one click per 4 degrees. It has proved solid and reliable so far. I will confess to one embarassing thing though...I was thinking at first that the wrench was faulty, because I could not get anything to fit on it over the little ball bearing. I am used to the ball bearings being spring loaded and providing a friction fit for the socketes. However, then I found that the small button in the centre of the back of the rachet head, released the ball bearing so things fitted fitted perfectly now! Nothing can fall off as you have to release it with the button to get it free. Ugh, I felt stupid until I realised the only other wrench I have used with a button there was a good few years ago, but there the button released the lever to reverse the direction of the ratchet. Now the little lever getting moved accidentally was a criticism of the old wrench, but on this new wrench I found that while it moved very easily it was still sufficiently recessed that I have not yet caught it by accident. The sockets seem to be well made, like everything in this kit, they are very smooth and well-finished. So much so in fact, that perhaps in future kits they might want to look into knurling a bit of them to make them easier to keep hold of with greasy/oily fingers? I do appreciate the sizes being marked onto them so clearly, although the sizes seemed to be more like laser etched than embossed on mine. The case is actually useable! Typically blow-molded cases are a loose fit on the parts, but mine were perfect with all the parts being gripped tightly, but not too tightly. The hinges and latches were fine and worked well enough. For the case, the biggest plus by far for me was the inclusion of a decent sized space for screws, etc. Yes, very useful for that...but mine immediately got used to house strips of 1/4" hex screwdriver bits since this kit has an accurate adaptor to allow the 1/4" square drive to work with 1/4" hex bits. I do have one criticism/recomendation though, and that is as so many have noted in their reviews - This kit would really benefit from having a handle for the case. The handle of the wrench would also benefit from being knurled I thought at first, but I actually found I could keep a fine enough grip on it as it was, just from it's shape. Knurling there could make your palms sore after a lot of use. The extension bars might perhaps have benefitted from some knurling though. Also I know some like extension bars to be "wobble bars" so that they have a little wiggle room in difficult situations. The bars here do have a little bit of room for maneuver, but are not meant to be wobble bars. This is not a bad thing, as wobble bars will wear very quickly if you try to use them as often as normal extension bars. This set has a very good quality universal joint anyway, so I really do not see much benefit in wobble bars - Again Tekton have chosen well. Those who buy the very top name brand tools might well look down on tools like these, but I believe only in the most extreme situations where you are destroying the tool through misuse anyway, would you be likely to see any difference? For me, I will take seemingly 98% of that quality, for likely less than 10% of that cost. One last point as well. The whole set is pleasingly heavy to pick up! I did not realise how used to poor quality tools I had become accustomed to over the years, but as soon as you handle these, you can feel that quality. Everything feels very substantial and well-made. This set is the first Tekton product I have bought, but I am so pleased with it that I will be buying their letter and number stamps when I have the money.

High quality at reasonable prices!
There isn't a single thing I dislike about this. That might be a lie, if there is one thing is that you have to open in one way so that it doesn't drop the sockets.Besides that everything is perfect. It feels and looks nice. Clear engraved sizes. They are sturdy and can even be used with impacts. Which you should technically not do.Great range for a 1/4 set and with the 2 extension, 1 universal joint, socket hand driver, and rachet you are getting great value. Especially if you find it at $50 dollars like I did

Perfectly Comprehensive and Convenient Toolset for Every Project
I got my hands on this fantastic 1/4 inch drive socket set and I couldn't be happier. This set covers all the sizes I need, making it incredibly versatile for various projects. One of the standout features is the smart design that allows the ratchet to be attached to the screwdriver, which adds a lot of convenience and efficiency to my work. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable and well-thought-out toolset!

Great 1/4" Set
Great sockets for a great price. I work in the automotive field and didn't want to spend $600 on a (metric only) set of 1/4 sockets. The included wrench is ok but I have other ones. The 1/4" screwdriver is actually really nice and has a socket on the back to put a wrench on for more leverage which I thought was cool. Also includes a hex bit adapter and a little parts tray. Overall great set even for techs. Saved me hundreds of dollars

Almost perfect
I'd give this socket set 5 stars, but there isn't a handle and the bottom set don't snap in and fall out easy. This set it very durable and easy to use, so far my favorite adult set lol

I'd recently found tekton tools.
Great quality, great craftsmanship for the money is probably the best set of. Tools since I had my old Craftsman set. Talking the new junk. I put these on a pig. Style. Organizer. That it's in my toolbox. I had to drill out. Two metric small and Two standard-size small sockets. The shorter sockets are a little bit taller than my old Craftsman set. By about an eighth of an inch. Ratchet is fantastic. It's tiny. And. It gets into tight spots where my other one was a little bit larger. Great tool. Well worth the money. Their warranty is unreal. Take a picture. Send it in. Hey, send you a new one, no questions asked.
