Though not as comfortable as "form-fitted" vertical mice, it's the best for users who want to use BOTH hands

It's been very helpful for my wrists. Although I probably would have preferred a model that fit my fingers better, I like using my mice/trackballs with either hand, and those "form-fitted" vertical mice that are either right-handed or (rarely) left-handed don't allow me to do that. Although the top button (index finger location) is initially the "primary" button, you can change it (at least, on an Apple system--just go the Mouse pane of your System Preferences and change primary from "left" to "right" and vice versa to switch between the button located on your index finger with the one on your middle finger). The "bow tie" switch at the bottom just changes which direction the scroll wheel makes the page/screen slide. It takes a little getting used to, making your brain think "okay, scroll to the *outside of your hand* to make the page go down," but it became second nature after a few days. You'll want to switch the "bow tie"'s direction depending on which hand you're using so that it fits that hand. The scroll wheel is itself a button--but I can't get it to do anything. It's probably a "Button 3" that you could program to do things given the right software, such as mouse-mapping programs. (The basic Apple preferences don't involve a third button.)

The BEST ergo mouse, hands down (particularly for wrist and/or thumb pain!)

Amazing mouse! I've used the Evoluent mouse for years, but after simply too many hours a day of detailed computer work, even that wasn't keeping me from my wrist problems and extreme pain. The Evoluent was basically a normal mouse, turned on its side so that your hand is in a neutral "handshake" position. You use identically to a normal mouse; all movements and clicks are the same. THIS mouse however is different in this way: You're still in a neutral "handshake" position, BUT - because of the construction of the base and the mechanics of the mouse, you are actually moving your ARM more than your WRIST. I felt an immediate difference the first day I used this, and discovered that it wasn't so much the pure act of mousing that was giving me such pain, but it was the very small delicate wrist movements that I was doing with all other mice that was causing my pain; with the Penguin Mouse I am moving my arm, and those little wrist movements aren't happening!I am absolutely SOLD on this mouse - plus it's ambidextrous, so if I feel the need to challenge myself and use my opposing hand a bit, I can do so and increase the break I give to my painful wrist. I will add that its only drawback is that since you are moving your arm more so than your wrist, it IS slightly more difficult to do small, detailed, formatting maneuvers (ie Excel spreadsheet formatting, graphics details, etc.) - but I simply switch back to a traditional mouse if I have something that is truly that challenging to do with this one. As you get used to it, you can make your longer arm strokes an movements more precise, and come closer to the small delicate movements you'd be easily able to do with a typical mouse. This is a lifesaver for me!!! Thank you SO much Posturite! One note: you will see 2 reviews from me - One for the Large, and one for the Medium... This is because I measured my hand per their instructions on choosing a size, and based on that - ordered a Large. I found that once I began using it, my clicker fingers weren't able to wrap up and around the front of the mouse quite enough, and I was either slipping off the clicker buttons, or having incomplete clicks. I ordered a Medium, and the problem was solved. I had originally thought I might return the Large, however I'm actually thinking that someone else at work might be able to use it - or I might even switch it up between the Med & Large, simply to continue varying my movements, posture, etc., as is good to do ergonomically with your seating position, desk, etc. This consistent movement and changes in your movement *patterns* are what will help one slow or maybe eliminate the development of various pains due to working at a desk all the time.I will leave a follow up review down the road to report on whether I'm still experiencing the same success with the Penguin. I sure hope so, as the daily pain I was experiencing was MISERABLE, and really impeded all other things I need my wrist for in life. I have read that lifetime on this may not be as long as typical mice, however with these lifesaving qualities, it's still worth it!I hope this review might help others who are suffering with the same issues as me. Definitely give this one a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed. :)

Good while it works, died in a year

This is a review for wireless version.I was recommended this product by my company's occupational health unit and I should say that it greatly helped to relieve my hand strain. It takes time to get used to it, but it definitely helps. I bought two versions - cable ( for work) and wireless (for home)The cable one still works but the wireless one all of a sudden stopped working. One day it was working and the next day it is dead. I did not drop it or anything, the battery seems to be full, but it does not work for some reason. With the price of this thing, a year lifespan is just unacceptable.

Could be better

This mouse does understand the desperate need to relieve pressure by allowing for the rotation of the hand. However, it is cumbersome and "heavy" to slide around on the mouse pad. The scroll wheel works now for some reason. I would prefer a wrist rest at the base because you definitely cannot move it with as much ease as a "regular" mouse. It takes some getting used to. It definitely needs a re-design--however, it's vertical, so I'm keeping it. Oh, and they run really big, so go small. I ordered all three, then returned the ones that "didn't fit".

Could not be more disappointed

I thought this (overpriced) mouse was going to be a great solution for my wrist discomfort. I was wrong. My main issue is that the mouse has to be moved WAY more than my regular mouse--instead of moving a few inches, this mouse has to be moved almost the actual distance of the screen display. Lifting it repeatedly to cover a longer distance on the screen is not a good option, as it is heavier than a regular mouse and this creates additional discomfort. I'm moving this mouse all over my desk! Also, it is very difficult to be precise with movement, which makes it difficult to do tasks like checking boxes or moving to text fields. Also, I ordered the medium sizes mouse, based on the suggested hand measurements, but the mouse is too big. I have big hands (for a woman lol), and the measurements indicated I should order the medium, but I think the small would probably be a better fit. The left-click button is above the scroll wheel, and is awkward to reach for frequent clicking. I tried reversing the buttons, but that was not really helpful.I've tried to get used to this mouse for several weeks, but it is just too slow and awkward for what I need (using this for my job). Unfortunately, I cannot return the item, because the box got thrown away. The one good thing I can say about it is that it holds a charge for a good long time.
