How Not To Do A Video For Kids.
There goes a Bulldozer is an example of how not to do a video for kids. Kids are thrilled with earthmoving equipment but the video failed to focus on that type of equipment. It is that type of equipment that little boys have in their sandbox. For example the video is titled "There goes a BULLDOZER" but there is almost no footage on bulldozers and what little there is, is of such poor quality that there is nothing for a little boy with a toy bulldozer to feast on. One of the problems that plagues the entire video is that the shots are too tight, too close up so that the little boy sees mostly the equipment operator rather than full views of the equipment in action and this particularly true of the bulldozer footage. Little boys are interested in the equipment, not the drivers and operators.Far too much time is wasted on adult humor. Kids have little interest in sky cranes but this video spends almost ten minutes on a sky crane, most of it on Dave making the climb to the top of the crane, an extremely boring climb. The one good thing in the video was the short segments at the beginning showing little boys operating toy equipment. More of this would have made the video more interesting. Better, show a child using a front loader loading a toy dump truck and then show the real thing and then go back to the toy. Do this with the various types of earth moving equipment that are found in toy stores. Although we live near the Getty Museum, using the construction of the museum was not a good idea because the construction shown was too complex for little boys.

Dave Hood tackles the construction site
This is a typical instalment in the "There Goes A .... " video series for the preschool set. We see a wide variety of machines, get a good explanation of how they work and what they do, talk to a few people who work in the field, get a safety admonition or two, and watch Dave in various goofy predicaments. If you think some of Dave's stunts aren't good for your child to see, this is probably one of the worst, with Construction Foreman Dave falling, tripping and getting run over by big trucks (though his being "transported" in a port-a-pot and walking away with tp on his boot never fails to get a laugh at our house). While there is not as much variety as in some of the other videos, like There Goes A Boat, the machines are terrific fun to see up close and working -- bulldozers, a 240-ft tower crane, etc.

A must have
I didn't know if my child would sit and watch this being he is a fan of animated shows. But he loves it. The first day he watch it three times in a row. He loves tractors and trucks so much I ordered three more shows of There Goes A...If you have a child who loves firetruck, tractors, airplanes, these videos are the kind of entertainment you should look into. Not only are the funny, in a silly way, they are educational. We hope to purchase more when the DVD come out.

A weak link in the series
My son has most of the "There Goes a..." videos and loves them. This one, however, is a bit odd. First, there are too many repetitive shots of explosions. Perhaps these are "cooler" for slightly older kids (my son is now 23 months; he has been watching these videos since about 17 months)but young children much prefer moving vehicles; the explosions are too sudden and scary. Then, because so much of it is shot on-site at a construction site, there is a lot of background noise that Dave has to shout over. All in all, it is somewhat disconcerting and a little boring for my son. He prefers Truck, Firetruck and Airplane.

Holds a 1 year old's attention.
My 1 (almost 2) year old son likes this video. But he wants me to watch it with him. No bulldozers here, but shots from large construction sites (J.Paul Getty Museum in LA) . Almost like somthing you'd see on the discovery channel. I went out to a nearby construction site with my video camera and was able to get comparable shots of heavy equipment. My son doesn't seem to mind "forman Dave".
