Good Supplement for Middle Ages
This provided a good supplement for our social studies for the Middle Ages, for an older child. When you are using curriculum that allows multiple ages, you feel like the older isn't getting enough depth. This accomplished that goal. It really needs to be used as a review or supplement. It is not a stand alone curriculum. But, it is great and easy to grade.

Excellent Series
I use this series for homeschooling my sons who are 10 & 13 (5th & 8th grades) and find it is appropriate for both grade levels. Obviously, you could supplement these books with other materials to suit the needs of older or younger children as well. (I enjoy history, so I do these lessons with my kids and can tailor it to their needs. if your child is working independently, it will likely be too much for a younger child.) I like the way each lesson is set up (as far as quantity of information to read and length/content of the worksheets that follow each lesson). The worksheets at the end of each lesson have a variety of matching, multiple choice, short answer, and maps/diagrams depending on lesson content. As I mentioned, we like this series as a whole and I find that all of the books I have purchased are of similar quality.

A wide variety of information on the middle ages
Very informative about rulers, conscience, and rule of law, predecessors to today's legal system.

Great for homeschoolers
I homeschool a 6th grader and we use this to go along with our H.O.D. Curriculum on the Middle Ages (RTR). It’s really helped summarize and tie connections up for us.

My 11 and 12 year old kids enjoy this so much more than boring text books
My 11 and 12 year old kids enjoy this so much more than boring text books. It's enough information to get their attention, not so much that they are bored to tears.

Negative
This book is a very negative and childish stroll through history. Very disappointed. The author was more interested in proving a point then teaching any facts. There is a lot of opinion which, in my opinion, should not be in a history book because then it becomes propaganda. All the history texts for kids I have seen have been very one sided and this book is no different other then this one is written by a child.

This is a must have for any teacher in grades 5-8.
This book worked great for my 6th grade social studies classes. I highly recommend this book to any teacher or parent. In has great information and a quiz on each article.

Concise summary of the basics - not suitable for all students
Generally good. It provides a quick review of major points of history. It is best suited to students who have already studied the topic and need a brief review or to strong students who want to preview the topic. In my opinion, it is unsuitable for struggling students by itself. I am tutoring a struggling high school student who will study this topic in a few months. The vocabulary and text-intensive approach is a challenge for this student. I sometimes use the downloadable, simplified text. To make progress, I start with other material that is more visual, then use one lesson (one page of text) of this material, then work on vocabulary and basic concepts from the text with the student, then go to the textbook that covers the same material more fully (about 5-8 pages), then work on additional vocabulary and more fully developed concepts from the textbook with the student.
