It is a new area for us, as we had only previously had dogs and our kids had "terrarium pets." When one of our female's developed a urinary infection some years ago, I didn't realize it until I read up on "why cats will pee outside the litter box." I immediately figured out who the culpret was and took her to the Vet. She diagnosed a bladder infection and put her on antibiotics and gave me instructions regarding what type of litter to use in the meantime. Mimi was still reluctant to use the litter box and so I decided to try Pee Pads and she began to use them!! To this day Mimi will use the Pee Pads which I place just outside the litter boxes. I also looked up suppliments I could give her for her bladder and found out that older cats can develop kidney issues as they age. I decided to try Maxxicat and one other brand.
