Horses in Translation: Essential Lessons in Horse Speak: Learn to "Listen" and "Talk" in Their Language

Stories Make it SO Easy to Learn & So Enjoyable!
I bought this book instead of her illustrated how-to manual because I didn't know if I would agree with her info (I have 10 wild or semi-feral horses and watch them endlessly) and I figured at least I could enjoy her stories and understand a different perspective. But I can honestly say I would recommend this book to everyone. I can't think of a situation where the awareness - if not the techniques - would not improve the horse's life and relationship with the human. Wilsie is also a great writer and excellent storyteller. This is not the entire lexicon or vocabulary that horses utilize, but it's detailed and large enough to guarantee you'll learn something (or 2 or 3) you didn't already know, even if you are an avid observer of horse communication. I also love the way Wilsie's stories highlight that each horse is different - instead of lumping every horse into a seamless "equine" category. Her stories share the nuances and importance of accurate perception and interpretation when dealing with "difficult" horses, and showing how the human needs to adapt for a positive exchange to take place.GREAT book!

Learn to listen to your horse.
We all know what it’s like. You get a book. You try a page or a few. When I am beside myself with joy over a book, I find myself picking it up, gorging on a page or two, and putting it down because I can hardly contain myself. This is that rare book.I started riding when I was 5 but did not get my own horse until my late 40’s. At that time it was all about Ray Hunt, Tom Dorrance, Buck Branaman. All men. My first horse had checked out, which I didn’t get till many years after he died. He had checked out due to meanness. I never got him back. I see that now. My new horse, Gypsy is a love. She always comes to me and my heart melts. I started doing what the male culture prescribed. I HATED IT. I know how I feel when anyone tries to control me, dominate me, mansplain me. This sweet soul is my partner in this difficult world. I treat her the way I want to be treated; with compassion, joy, humor, tenderness and tearful gratitude . Sharon Wilsie and Caroline Rider are the women I will follow.

Mystery behavior was the horse speaking to me and I didn't know it.
I have to say WOW about this book! I wish I had read this book two years ago when I rescued a wild horse and her baby from slaughter. The mare had made body movements and head gestures that I noticed but did not recognize as a language. I just simply didn't know. Now I know she was speaking to me. This book is amazing! I use what I learned in the book on my domesticated horses who appreciate me understanding their language. I no longer have the wild horses but when I visit them they truly make me smile because they are quick and true with the language. I am so happy to now know what they are saying. It has made me a better equestrian and my horses are happier. Oh, this is big: behavior that most people thought was bad behavior from the horse was them actually attempting to communicating a message. No longer will horses get scolded for talking their language.

Good product
Solid book for people who want to understand and communicate with their horse. Sadly there are several similar books on the market right now, and each book has only a small section of truly fresh ideas. Safe to give as a gift, and an interesting read, but not the best book Ive read on this topic.

Sharon Wilsie has taken equine communication to a new level! Everyone, literally Everyone engaged with horses needs to read this book.
Wilsie has studied hard and using keen observation taken our understanding of horse communication to an entirely new level. Her method provides "the missing link" for us to be able to understand what horses are "saying," and even more importantly, for us to be able to communicate in dialog with horses using the body language, breath messages and sounds horses use with one another. Anyone who pays attention to equine communication has some understanding of these topics both from an intuitive perspective and in likelihood from having read or been taught some basic principles. Wilsie has taken this line of inquiry to an entirely new level, identifying patterns and intricacies never fleshed out this well and this specifically in the existing literature. And she teaches *us* how we, too, can communicate with horses at this new level. This book (and its companions) are a must for any horse person in any discipline, or if you just want to more about how horses interact with one another and with us. A must read!!!!!

A different perspective
Understanding horse behaviour and body language has opened up a whole new world for me and although my horse is not responding quite like she describes in the book, I know it’s because I have to slow waaaaay down in how I communicate with him. Great insights and looking forward to exploring more and applying the principles.

Sharon's gift to humans and their horses is
Immense. This account of her adventures learning Horse Speak is a treasure. I have suggested Sharon's book to all in my world. In my learning & practicing of this skill of focus and attention in observing horse to horse communication, I have moved to warp drive in my equine being with. Of particular news to me was their passion for personal space. Remarkable their willingness to form relationships of heart with humans. I am full of gratitude for this new chapter in my learning.

A must read!!
This is what my horsemanship journey is really all about! I have been searching my whole life for a way to have that magic connection with my horses. All it requires is a change in mindset and the willingness to listen. true partnership waits at the end of this book and I cannot recommend it highly enough. To go out into the pasture or barn and really "talk" to you horse- in their language- to have a conversation- is truly incredible! Thank you Sharon Wilsie!!

great book
This book describes very well the horses’ behaviour and interactions. The different examples make it easier to understand the application of the theory.
