Great Product
I have used the plastic snaps in the past, but they were not sturdy enough for the current project. I like Dritz products so watched a video on using it and decided that it was just what I needed. The instructions in the package were much easier to use than watching the video. It works great and would recommend it for your heavier snap needs. Also making the purchase through Amazon is more cost effective than waiting for a sale at the local fabric store.

Works well most of the time
Once you figure out how to use these pliers and their fasteners they work fine. The instructions in the packaging were poor. The online videos were unclear which fittings to use for the Dritz pliers and which snap fastener parts and pieces are the correct mates. I ruined 3 snaps before figuring how to do it.The Dritz #981-1 snaps work well with 0.060 inch thick cloth material. There is no need to first punch a hole (as stated in the instructions) before applying these snaps to the cloth. These snaps hold tightly in operation, and actually are too heavy duty for low strength fabric materials (might tear the fabric when unsnapping). These snaps would be like the ones found on high school football jackets.I also used these pliers with the Dritz #5-3 heavy duty snaps on the same 0.060" material. These snaps require a hole to be placed first before applying the snaps to the cloth. Again the instructions were poor for these snaps. These snaps require use of more fittings on the pliers; more time to do the job. These snaps hold as well as the #981-1 snaps but they require more time to do. I will use the #981-1 snaps as the preferred model.

Good Fastener easy to use
I needed a fastener to put in some steel snaps through leather straps about 3mm thick. I read all the reviews and searched through the fasteners listed on Amazon. I only need this for occasional use and didn't want to spend a lot. So, I decided on this one . I must say it worked very well the first time putting in the plated steel snaps through leather. These snaps require a firm squeeze to properly crimp the post. This fasteners held up without any bending in the handles. Pretty good for a first use. Comes with instructions on the back of the card, that may be a little hard to follow unless you've done this before. I just had to make sure which half of the snap goes into the plastic platform, and when to use the red adapter. Like I said I'm a first time user, and I was able to figure it out. Product works, my snaps are all holding, and I'm happy with this fastener.

Works Great
Before I ordered this product I read many of the reviews. Several were very negative but I bought it anyway. Glad I did, it works great. It is certainly not for heavy duty snap rivets but for light or medium duty material it is more than adequate. I had no trouble applying snap rivets to my golf cart weather inclosure which is made of medium weight Sunbrella material.

Difficult to Use
Disappointed that this tool is not easier to use. It is incredibly difficult to squeeze it. Even a grown man had difficulty trying to use it.

You need this if your kid goes to a school that makes you buy their uniforms
Uniforms are sometimes worn down faster than normal clothes.::: this fixes buttonsI have nothing against uniforms. I think they are a good idea… especially just tops

Great tool!
This has to be made by Germany, because the engineering is well designed, simple, and it works flawlessly every time! All you have to do is make sure the 'diamond' shaped pointer makes contact with the inside, head of the rivet, then squeeze the pliers, it's that simple! (the diamond shaped edges, split the rivet, as you squeeze, making for a clean, peened over, rivet). It may take you a few tries to get used to it, but it works great! Some reviewers didn't find that it works well. I think it is just because they didn't have the rivet centered, and it smashed the rivet post, before it engaged with snap. I was skeptical at first, when I got it, as I thought the plastic on one end probably is cheap and will break! NOT SO, all it does is keep the 'button' end lined up, when you squeeze the handles. I put in almost 200 snaps, in 40 gauge clear vinyl, with no problem. You can't go wrong for the price!

Nice basic snap installer
I've used this to put marine grade snaps on a couple boat covers. It does a good job of putting holes in marine canvas to feed the snap thru and the actual riveting of the snap works well.It may be the snaps I'm using but this tool takes a bit of grip strength to use, I found the rubber grips moved a bit under the strain.I noticed a bit of wear on the pointed bit that splits the snap rivet after my use. I've probably installed 400 to 500 snaps with it so I may be due for a new bit.Would be a good tool for spot repairs where you can't bring a bench mounted press.Overall a good inexpensive tool for my application.
