Big Horn 19061 Marking/Striking/Scribing Knife Red, Small

Great quality compared to the marking knives you get in the packs of woodcarving knives that you'll find at common craft stores. Use one pretty much everyday at work, not as its intended to be used mind you, and have only had a blade come loose once and i've had numerous of these. The cheap knives that come in the pack usually only last a week or two before getting loose and un-usable where as these last at least 2 months before getting dulled to the point of being hard to use

Great product. Excellent quality. Very sharp. The perfect size for my hands. Smart decision to create flat sides so it won't roll anywhere.

I like it a lot but the edge seems to roll pretty easily when using it to strike against my square.But it leaves a good line.

Using dovetail joints on a new cabinet and this knife is excellent for marking out the angles. Was able to mark a very fine line for the pins from the using the cutout tails as the template. Much better results than from a dovetail jig but thats just me. The jig is fine but I get better accuracy using marking tools and a saw and this tool is excellent for marking.

it took about 20-25 minutes of honing to get it sharp with a proper edge. i like the two sided bevel so you can just flip it over as you need to. it does get nicked rather easy when using with a metal square or straight edge but i assume that is normal, and it's pretty easy to fix. it fits well in my hand and the blade is set in the handle very well. the blade is only about 1 or 1.5 inches long so if you are using a piece of wood or something as a straight edge it can only be that thick or you can't hold it flat against the surface. overall i'd say its a good buy

It's a marking knife, not that fancy (or expensive). The knife tip had a bit of a ding on arrival, but I usually sharpen my tools anyway and the bent tip was fairly easy to repair. Unlike some marking knives, it's bevels are set up so you can mark on either side. That has both advantages and disadvantages, but definitely allows for more economy and less storage issues that you'd find with two single sided knives. I immediately used this to mark up a maple display case that I'm making and it worked more than adequately with the harder wood.

When I bought it, it was $25 — much cheaper than any comparable marking knife. I thought there might be catch, but there was none. This is good quality.
