Amazing Book and Author!
Busch must have been born to write books like this. His writing is very clear, comprehensive and helpful. He mixes in just enough anecdotes and analogies to help make the less obvious clear and also lighten up the mood. He has lots of real-world experience to share in this book.Whether the T1i/500D is your first DSLR and you're new to serious photography, or if you're a seasoned pro just looking to learn some of the finer details about the T1i, you'll get a lot out of this book. I've yet to find anything it doesn't cover. My only gripe is there are a couple places where Busch likely mis-quoted content from one his earlier Canon DSLR books. For example he get's the maximum ISO wrong in one place as it's likely the max ISO of a previous model. But I haven't found anything that's likely to lead anyone astray. On the whole, it's remarkably free of errors. If you own the T1i/500D, and are trying to make do with the Canon supplied manual, you owe it to yourself to get this book or a similar one like the Digital Field Guide if you want something a bit smaller.

Perfect companion to the T1i
While I'm not a total novice to the DSLR world, this book is a great reference for everything about the T1i. I feel much more confident about getting the most from my camera now that I have this paperback. It is well written and full of valuable info. It is a resource to which I can return as needed. If you want to use your T1i to its fullest potential, you need this book.

Must have it.
If you have Canon Rebel T1I, let's use it in a full potential. It does NOT make any sense to spend so much on this camera and don't know how to use it. Therefore, this book can really help: easy and still deep explanations; nice, big, COLLOR, pictures. I would recommend it to every Canon T1I owner.

Eos Rebel T1i Guide to digital SLR photography
Being new to digital SLR photography I got this book because it was specific to the camera I bought. It has a wealth of information presented in an easy to understand format and even some humor thrown in. It is set up in a way that makes it easy to progress form the simple to the more complex. Within minutes I was going through the menus and snapping pictures.I would definitely recommend this book to those who need more explanation than what's in the information manual that comes with the camera.I look forward to using this book for years to come.

Everyone should have his book for whatever camera they have. Esp beginners and also those who are not new will learn something.
I really can't speak to this one but I am buying for family member for their camera. I own the one for Nikon D5300 and absolutely loved it so I ordered this as gift. I am sure there will be no disappointment as so much is covered in this book. David Busch is top writer of these field guides and I think everyone should purchase for whatever camera they have. He recommends certain lenses and I have gone online to read reviews of lenses based on his recommendations. So much in this book and such value! This book isn't just for beginners. Everyone except professionals will learn something. David Busch does not disappoint. Would love to find condensed version to carry in camera bag.

NO CMPARISON
I purchased the Canon Rebel T1i 2 months ago, and the manual that comes with the camera is very minimal..You cannot "learn how to use a camera" unless you understand the reasons one setting is preferred over another. The 357 page "photography course" quality manual that covers the T1i in great detail should be included by Canon in every box they ship. For $19.79 from Amazon, with free shipping it is a must buy. The only thing wrong is it weights 32 oz., so you have to read it at home. However, then you can understand the Canon manual (3.6oz.) in you travel bag.

Another manual - just more detailed with confusing and overlapping information
I'm starting out on dSLR photography. All of my previous cameras have been point-and-shoot. I bought this book thinking that this will show me how to take great pictures - not with just any camera but - exclusively with my Canon Rebel T1i. I never purchased this book thinking that it was going to be another 300-page camera manual with repetitive information.Even though I am new to professional photography, I am not new to digital photography. So the first few chapters were completely useless (for me) because all they had were huge images of camera's different parts showing you how to insert its battery or where to plug in its USB cable, etc. - which is kind of lame. I'm not sure how many people wouldn't know how to plug in a USB cable these days. But maybe I'm a minority I thought, and I continued to read on.I found so much of the same information repeated throughout different chapters. The author goes into different features of the camera without giving you scenarios in which you might use those settings. More importantly, even though the book is full of pictures, very rarely does the author provide pictures as examples to compare different shooting modes and settings so you can understand what they mean.Like the first few chapters, I found the last few chapters also useless because they were more about setting up a studio, information about different flashes including those giant studio lights, and lenses. I understand this could be important down the road but for right now, all I want to know is how to shoot with what I've got.If you're looking for a more detailed manual or user's guide, get this book. It goes over every single mode, feature, and accessories of this camera without fully "teaching" you how to shoot. But if you want someone to show you how to shoot great pictures with your T1i, this book is not for you. I think the title of the book should not have included the words "Guide to Digital SLR Photography". It's just a guide to Canon Rebel T1i and its accessories. If you're like me who is enough technically-savvy to know how to insert a battery or plug in a USB cable, but don't know what all these different buttons and shooting modes on the camera dial mean and what settings you should be choosing based on different lighting situations, get one of these other books instead. They teach you the WHY, the WHEN and the HOW of professional dSLR photography: Canon Rebel T1i/500D: From Snapshots to Great Shots Understanding Exposure, 3rd Edition: How to Shoot Great Photographs with Any Camera

Good info but not what I expected
Good info but not what I expected...A bit more wordy and technical and less "here is what & why" language. OK book but not one to live without.

Satisfied reader
I have not found a guide that is comparable to David Busch's in detail and practicality. Not only the settings of your camera but first hand information on how to apply them in real live situations. Thank you David. This is my second guide. I previously had one for myRebel XTI.R. Robinson.
