Great intro guitar
This is a great guitar for little ones. I bought this for my son's fifth birthday and am very impressed. It is the perfect size for him, is very realistic with a surprisingly decent sound, is durable enough that it can stand up to a five year old's handling, and yet cheap enough that if/when he breaks it I won't feel like I'm out some of his college savings. Make sure you have someone who knows how to tune a guitar, because it will not be tuned when it comes out of the box. Overall, a great guitar to test the interests of aspiring musicians.

Good looking, better than other children's guitars
I purchased this so that my 3 year old wouldn't destroy my good guitar. For this purpose, it has worked out perfectly. It doesnt hold a tune very well, but perhaps this could be fixed with new strings. Don't get me wrong, it sounds better than most guitars in its class/price range, but it is definitely not a musical instrument. More made for fun/horsing around. If I had it to do over, I probably would just purchase one of those paper guitars that plays music - for the age my kids are they seem to enjoy it better.

disappointed in workmanship...
My mistake--I didn't open this until christams morning, when my child finally got it as a gift. It is not red, and the paint and construction is terrible. It sounds ok, but I fear about it's durabilitly. We bought a Valencia guitar back in august for his birthday for $10 less and it is 100 times the product that this one is. My child has already fallen in love, so unfortunately I am not able to send it back--at least until it breaks...

Fun toy, not a great musical instrument
This guitar arrived packaged well, but when we opened it looked like it had been repaired. The neck had some obvious abrasions that had been repainted, so we wondered if it was a used guitar. It was impossible to tune the guitar where basic chords could be played. Despite all of that, the seven year old still seemed to enjoy the gift. For the price it was an ok toy, but I wouldn't expect it to be used for beginner music lessons.

Strummin'
We bought the Red/Black guitar in 2011. Five years later, it is still making music. This is a quality purchase and a great way to introduce your child to the guitar. The size is impressive enough without being intimidating. Itโs about 1/3 smaller than a regular-sized instrument, but that makes it a perfect fit for the smaller torso and shorter arm length of the 8-12 year old group. The body of the guitar is well made with a moderate resonance, and the steel strings (picks are provided) help to project the sound. Itโs a complete package with extra strings, picks and even a soft, padded case. The pegs required constant adjustment, and if your child isnโt schooled in that art, they may get discouraged. The Shoenhut guitar is a stunning piece, and a quality purchase.

SWEET!!
My 6 yr. old daughter is in heaven with this guitar. She's wanted a real guitar, so this was a big hit for Christmas. She barely put it down. Worth the price. Comes with a guitar case, strap, and pick. Just tune it when it comes and your little one is all set. Definite 5 stars-no doubt about it!!

Bought for 1 year old nephew
I looked all over for a guitar for my 1 year old nephew. I didn't want one of those baby guitars that lights up and plays a random note or song when you push the buttons. His dad is an excellent guitarist, so I wanted something real, but not too expensive incase he eventually broke it. I finally settled on this guitar, and I'm thrilled! My nephew LOVES it! He sits on the floor and strums it. It sounds great since it has real strings, not like the little kid ones that have plastic strings. Even better, his dad also has a new toy! My nephew sometimes has to fight his dad to play it. When dad is playing his own guitar, they can sit and play together now. I'm sure it won't be long until they are playing and singing duets. Great bonding time!
