what difference in the numbers 2, 4 and 6?

will it fit well for single cup machine using # 2 when I cut the # 4 to # 2 ?

Yes, it works fine. The size of the bottom of both the #2 and #4 filters is exactly the same. Trim about an inch off of the top of a #4 filter, and you have a #2 filter.

Are these filters compostable?

Worms in my worm factory eat right through them although it does take time. There is no such thing as fast when it comes to worms eating anything. The filters in time will be consumed.
