I don't use them as drink caps, though, I use them to cap my viili, kefir, and sourdough cultures. I also plan on using these on any future thermophilic cultures, like yogurt. Before getting these, I was using coffee filters with rubber bands and they would always invariably stick to part of the jars and rip or get dusty, and my cultures never seemed to be all that happy and would dry out on the surface. These, however, are a fantastic alternative, as they are imminently reusable, not very fussy to take on and off, silicone (not plastic), dishwashable and self-venting. My kefir grains, especially, seem to love these caps in that they are now multiplying like crazy and yielding a creamier beverage.Having used these these now for short cultures and inspected them up close, I probably would not use them for long term anaerobic fermentation. There is an x-shaped flap over where you are supposed to insert the straw, which would allow oxygen to be sucked into the jar if there was negative pressure. While the flaps might hold an airlock securely, I'm not sure how airtight this would be over weeks or months. For a day or maybe up to a week long fermentation where I would be relying on there mostly being positive internal pressure inside the jar, with an airlock, I could see myself using these if I were out of other fermentation vessels. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty, useful, and easy *by S***A on Reviewed in the United States πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ on May 6, 2017* I really like these silicone covers. They work wonderfully for our cold brew coffees in our 24 oz mason jars. I don't travel with it, so I can't speak about spilling in a bag, but I know that if I knock them over on my table, I get no leaking (assuming I promptly pick it up - I didn't try leaving it on its side - I want every drop of my precious cold brew!).You do want to make sure you have the lid firmly pressed down 100% of the way around. I have horribly arthritic hands and am able to manage this, so I would think it would be easy-peasy for younger hands. Look at it and make sure you see the bottom of the jar pressed up against the lid, and you're set to go!They wash up easily in the dishwasher. Since blue is not my favorite color (especially in association with food!), I would wish for another color. Also, don't really see a need for the ripples on the bottom of the lid - I like clean lines. But otherwise, there's nothing I don't like about them. The only thing for me is the skirt that goes out around the bottom of the lid is really kinda pointless. I get that it's suppose to look cute but it seems like a waste of material. But anyway, I do love them. I wanted to stop using plastic cups for my toddlers so I figured glass mason jars with silicone lids, silicone sleeves, and silicone straws! And I love it! I have these soft silicone straws that I worried wouldn't work because the lids have a tight hole for a straw but they worked and it's almost drip proof. I mean look, I have had a million sippy cups and they all leak at least a little so these are just as good and no chemicals! I took pictures of the straw hole not leaking, after a while I did get one half of a drop, except from the straw of course cause there's no valve on that. But I also shook the cup in an upright position and no milk dripped out the sides at all and didn't even come close to dripping, in the picture you can see the milk bubbles but the tight ring stopped any leaks.
