Great gift item for any vintage dirt bike fan.
My husband loved this book. We have several of the bikes pictured in the book. A great buy for 70’s vintage dirt bike fans.

Although I like this book and am glad I bought it I was a little disappointed in some aspects of it. I think it would have benefited from some professional editing although that is a small quibble I guess and seems par for the course for much publishing today. It didn't cover a lot of bikes I would like to have seen but that also means perhaps a new, volume 2 could be produced to cover in more material. If so, I'd buy that as well.

The book reflects many of my own thoughts... having grown up about the same time.
Liked the research done to produce the book. Plenty of 1st hand experience as well as similar discoveries.

Not for the Expert
The book suffers from an egregious technical omission. How in the world do you write a book on this topic and not include the preeminent brand Husqvarna! The Swedish brand was a pioneer in the creation of high quality, agile, and world championship caliber bikes. The author should immediately publish an updated version with a proper Husky on the cover and a possible gatefold of the bike ridden by the motocross legend Thorsten Hallman. The author should have taken the time to properly research the subject to avoid such an oversight. All the other bikes shown in the book are well photographed and have nice write ups. Maybe I'll use the book for traction the next time I ride my Husqvarna.

Good variety of bikes!
Would like to know the criteria for selecting the bikes reviewed. Most importantly, my Bultaco Pursang was included.

Anyone into vintage dirt bikes will like it but it is better suited to a novice.

If you're just looking for a book with some nice pictures of nice bikes then it's great - nice glossy cover & pages. If you're looking for more than that then it's definitely lacking - no real advice on restoration, very arbitary scoring system with no monetary values (I know that is always changing but always upwards it would seem) & as a standard model guide then it's patchy. It shows a nice CZ400 Falta but it has a modified frame & non-original pipe. The descriptions of the model in question is very light & more suited to a school library book. Also, what vintage dirt bike book worthy of the name has nothing from Husqvarna, Suzuki TM / RM, Yamaha YZ, only one Honda & one little heard of Maico? There are plenty of beautifully restored vintage dirt bikes out there with willing owners wanting to show them off (quite rightly too) - it feels like the author has very little knowledge of the subject. Im glad I only paid £10 odds for it.
