looked like the books were used
2 stars for physical book quality. 5 stars for book content. LOVED the book and would've given it three stars. Disappointing to order two books and think they would come new or in new condition. Both had stuff on the front cover page and were ripped a little and crinkled. One of the books came signed by the author to a country club. While that is cool it would've been disappointing to get that if I was going to give it as a gift. Amazon should update their description so you know you are getting a used book. Again, love the content and actual book just wish the description was correct.

Beautiful. Stunning photographs
Beautiful. Stunning photographs. My mother used to vacation nearby growing up so I gave her a copy for her 90th birthday. She loved it. I'm planning on getting a copy for myself. A great keepsake after watching the tournament.

I decided the book is better than the course
This book is more than interesting. In fact, after the tournaments at Chambers Bay and The Open, I decided the book is better than the course. In fact, I don't see much similarity to St. Andrews at all!

Just a little over the top, don't you think?
Haven't read the book yet but as one who lives in the area and has played Chambers Bay, for author Blaine Newman, a former Seattle newspaper writer, to title his book "America's St. Andrews" is more than a bit of an over-reach, don't you think? St. Andrews is..... what?.... 400 years old and Chambers Bay less than 10. It might be wise for the Washington course to get a little history under it's belt before we start comparing this layout with what many consider the greatest golf course in the world.UPDATE: May 16, 2015Despite my earlier criticism of the title, I now have the book in my possession and it's beautiful... to put it mildly. As one who has not only played but walked the course a number of times as a spectator for high-level college events (as well as the 2010 U.S. Amateur) I wanted to become immersed in the history of the golf course and how Chambers Bay came to be. While author Blaine Newman is a bit gushy in his prose, he does an excellent job of describing how a 300-acre sand and gravel mine was shaped into perhaps the most unique golf course and public space in the country. Long before a shovelful of dirt was turned, Tacoma politicians had their eyes on a golf course that would eventually draw the attention of the USGA and persuade them that Chambers Bay could be the site of a one-of-a-kind U.S. Open championship. The book is filled with photographs that illustrate the massive scale of the former industrial hub, all the way through today's magnificent layout, a place of nearly surreal beauty. With all the talk of just how challenging and unique this track will be for Open competitors, this book is an excellent way to delve into the full flavor of the remarkable Chambers Bay.
