The Great Big Move: A Surprisingly Exciting Adventure (Surprisingly Exciting Adventures) Paperback – September 12, 2018

My 6yo was very pleased with this book. I got it for her to help her prepare for our move... the third big one in 4 years. After reading it last night she immediately wanted to work on the pages in the back.Small details we both loved:- There was a spot where she could write her name. She was most excited about this, and signed it as soon as she woke up.-There were pages to write people and places she will miss, and also new places and people she discovers on this new “adventure”.- I loved the pages that she could use to write letters to friends. She likes the idea of them but does not want to cut pages out of her book... maybe I will have some friends write to her on them.

We love this book!! This is a book that is a very relatable story to many children. Who doesn’t have a little bit of fear of the unknown when it comes to a Big Move? Now, imagine it from the perspective of a child. This book does exactly that. My family just went through a recent move and my kids experienced many of the same feelings that Katie does. From reading this book, my kids were able to see that there are other kids who have gone through the same thing as them and shared many of the same feelings in regards to moving. I highly recommend this book as a wonderful resource to help talk to a child about moving. It’s also just a very well written story and it has become one of the favorites in our house.

I was looking for a book that could help my daughter deal with the fact that we were moving across the country from Cali, the only state she has really known. I love how it spoke about treasuring the things she will miss but look forward to all new adventures to come. Thanks to the author!

My 5 year old son was having a hard time dealing with his emotions about a move to a new house. I had tried talking to him about it but he was starting to act out at school. I found this book and decided to give it a try. It worked! My son loves stories and this one talks about the feelings that can bubble up around a move. I loved how it talks about the sad parts of moving but turns them into a happy and positive outcome. We saw a huge change in my son's behavior and have had a much more productive dialogue about the move. I can't recommend this book enough!

I bought about 5 moving books before our own Big Move, and this is the one my daughters (then 7 and 4) liked best by far. Fun, spunky, and fair portrayal of both the anxiety and the optimism. Concepts and reasoning skills might be a bit complicated for little ones (~3-5 yo crowd), but they’ll still probably enjoy it?

I bought this for my girls (ages 4 & 6) to prepare for our move, but it ended up giving me, a 42 year old mom a major pump up about moving. Any age can benefit from this message. Love the positive spin this book offers!

I received a defective copy. Half of my book was upside down with writing cut off. Most of it was out of order. It made no sense.

"It's like I was on a treasure hunt and I didn't even know what I was looking for." What a great way to describe moving. This book with beautiful pictures tugs at the heart and is a great resource to have to help children through the transition of moving.

This is the book I wish I had had read to me when I was a child, having had moved several times with my family, within the borders of the USA and then throughout Germany. Author Meghan Johnston Geary sympathetically tells a story that is very pertinent. The book's protagonist Katie relates to reader and listener her thoughts regarding an impending move to another state. The prospect of a move need not be intimidating, rather, it can prove exciting. Moving can be a valuable experience! Illustrator Brooke O'Neill and the author are to be commended for creative excellence!
