MUST BUY for all Teens, Tweens and Women in your life
I started following Dr. Joel Fuhrman back in 2008 when I struggled with infertility. After following his guidelines for plant-based nutrition in his Eat to Live, I got pregnant after just 3 months. His solid, science-based, explanations for living a lifestyle free from unhealthy meat, dairy, and processed foods has changed my life. What a blessing that his daughter Talia is following in his footsteps. However - her book is written with a fresh, sassy flair, and the perspective of a young woman fighting back all of the negative messages pushed out by media, tv, government recommendations, and even college professors. She has the incredibly unique vantage point of a young woman who grew up learning foundations of good nutrition from infancy. Its refreshing to read that even while growing up in the ultra-healthy Fuhrman household, that she still struggled with loving her body, and defending her healthy eating to friends who thought she was weird. This book is a pep talk to females of all ages who are trying to learn good common sense in life - not just good nutrition. She includes wonderful advice on friendship, confidence, gratitude, and so much more. This is the stuff I want my 11 year girl old reading! What I love about this book is that it contains all of the stuff that I want my daughter to know - but that she doesn't want to hear from her Mom (again and again). Thank you Talia, and keep up the good fight for good health. Your family has changed my family for life!

Inspiring and Informative - An Absolute Gem
I highly recommend this wonderful book to anyone who is confused by all the different dietary recommendations out there - palio vs. vegan, low-fat vs. low-carb, etc. The author promotes a plant-based nutritarian diet (high nutrient density per calorie) and in addition to explaining why a nutritarian diet will help you to achieve your optimal health and beauty, she backs up her recommendations with impeccably documented research. Does the diet work? As a diabetic who struggles with autoimmune disease, I have found the nutritarian diet (as espoused in Love your Body and in books by the author's father, Joel Fuhrman, MD) to be the only thing that has worked to help me lose weight and keep my blood sugar levels and inflammation in check. The healing powers of plant-based foods are nothing short of miraculous. This book is also a fabulous read for anyone who knows how to eat right but struggles to apply it to their everyday lives. The author is down to earth, upbeat and engaging and will help you to translate your head knowledge to your heart (and your plate) and put the principles into practice. While the book is geared towards young women, I think any woman could benefit from reading it. In addition to nutrition, the author discusses inner beauty, how to cultivate an attitude of self-love, body image, relationships, exercise, skin care, animal welfare, and the environmental impacts of our diets. The book is also packed with delicious healthy recipes. On an aesthetic note, I enjoyed the layout and format of the book. The cover, paper and binding are high-quality, and it is well put together, colorful and appealing.Overall, this is a fun and inspiring book that is packed with information that could quite possibly change (or save) your life. I am not affiliated with the author and was not compensated in any way for my review. I plan to buy copies for all the women in my life.

Impassioned, energetic, informative, empathetic. A beautiful read, even for a guy.
As a guy being given this book, I didn't quite realize the target audience upon picking it up. But almost immediately I concluded that this detail was of very little or no significance, as men also must face similar issues of negative body image, struggles with weight gain, depression, etc, not to mention the hereditary heightened risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. To me, there is one beautiful theme that latched me on to this book like a magnet: Talia Fuhrman's harmonious and genuine passion to help other people love themselves and (obviously) their bodies through brilliantly intertwined elements of positive psychology, emphasizing and encouraging self-love and personal acceptance, coupled equally with fact-based information (extremely interesting and provocative to the non-vegan such as myself) of the countless, myriad ways that a plant-based diet helps to fight disease, help immunity, stimulate weight loss, improve neurological functioning, extend life span, etc. She finishes with a fervent and impassioned exploration of the bio-socio cultural and environmental impact of the typical American diet, demonstrating irrevocable proof that partaking in said diet harms so much more than the health of that particular individual. Talia makes great use of her encyclopedic nutritional knowledge, but by absolutely no means rests solely upon it. Her energetic and caring tone and spirit permeate each chapter and demonstrate her heartfelt empathy and care for her readers. I found this aspect just as pleasant and refreshing as I found the scientific data eye-opening and informative. This book was an absolute joy to read, and a day later I started with a much different grocery list than I had made the week before. Not only has it made me think much more about what I put into my body, but it has made me act, and for that I am abundantly grateful that I had a chance to read this gem.

This book offers a great introduction to the nutritarian/vegan lifestyle. It will appeal to young women in particular or anyone interested in clean, whole foods, vegegatarianism and veganism or just eating more healtfully! Anyone familiar with Talia's father, Dr. Joel Fuhrman's books will certainly find a lot of the same material here. Talia puts a fresh twist on things and explains nutrition from a younger perspective, like what food does for our bodies (wellbeing, skin, weight, etc.) and how we can use it to prevent illness (heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc.). I wanted to try a few of the recipies out before writing my review, including the black bean brownies, the burgers and the butternut squash soup. They all turned out quite well. They taste great and are highly nutritious. Paired with the right condiments, the burgers tasted pretty much like regular burgers. The brownies tasted a bit like chocolate banana bread, and the soup was great too. Anyone interested in more recipes should check out the Eat to Live Cookbook or the Dr. Fuhrman website. All in all, a good book, especially as a gift for young women who want to build a strong foundation for a healthy lifestyle in their later years!
