Irish tea!
Great price for imported tea from Ireland that you cannot find in all stores. Gave these as gifts to my aunts as a taste of Ireland. Good tasting tra.

great expiration date
Yes, this is the top quality Gold Label product even though it is in a green box. Fresh product with long expiration date of one full year in the future (some other suppliers ship product that is close to the expiration date, so that's the main reason for my 5 star review).

I've heard an Irishman in America say
"In Ireland there is a great Lyons Tea vs Barry's Tea debate but once you move across this side of the water you forget about all of that. It doesn't matter what type of tea it is as long as it's not from here."Curious, considering my favorite brand of tea was as the time Lipton black tea. I had to put his word to the test.I purchased both a box of Lyons Gold Blend and Barry's Tea Gold Blend and had them simultaneously delivered. My consensus after brewing a cup of both is I'm fine with either Barry's Tea or Lyons Tea as long as I don't have to drink another cup of Lipton ever. The pure richness of the tea is something I've never had before in a black tea. The aroma is strong and the flavor is bold. Even with milk and honey, the tea flavor is never lessened, only enhanced. It is absolutely wonderful and makes me question how Lipton can make tea so flavorless, needing two or even three bags to even come close to one Lyon's bag in terms of strength. As for Lyons vs Barry's, I'm not Irish enough to enter this debate. However, I can give my two cents after trying both.Barry's Tea is darker in color and has a slightly bitter taste. The bitterness persists with milk and honey. This isn't a negative by any means and only seems to enhance the "tea" flavor of the entire brew. It does seem to taste noticeably stronger than Lyons given the same steeping time and amount of milk/honey added.Lyons Tea is a bit softer in color and flavor, and does not have any indication of bitterness at all, yet still has an incredible bold flavor. It is simply better in my opinion only because I prefer a non-bitter tea to a slightly stronger bitter tea.

My favorite tea
Just wish it had better airtight packaging. Last two orders boxes were crushed and open. Time before that I received a past the best use by date. Still the best tasting tea compared to US brands by far.

A bold tea, but with less bitter and tannins (if you brew it right)
Now I see why the Barry's vs. Lyons is a feud in Ireland. I have used PG Tips, Barrys, and now Lyons teas. Lyons wins - justly slightly - above Barrys IMHO, and both are slightly better teas than PG Tips. Now ALL are really good if you prefer a strong and flavorful tea. However I am "supertaster*" for bitter so even mild bitterness is "turned up to 11" for myself. In Lyon's gold, even when I accidently overstepped the tea I got little bitterness but plenty of flavor. It is so far the only tea that has done that - not even the premium loose-leaf first-flush Darjeeling tea I got was able to do that.*I'll trade Supertaster of Bitter for Perfect Pitch or Eidetic Memory. Stupid superpower. All it does it make me retch at most salad greens and coffee.

Lyons Gold Blend...a very fine black tea
I'm a big fan of Lyons Original Blend, a very fine black tea I enjoy regularly. I'm now a fan of Lyons Gold Blend.Lyons promotes their Gold Blend as being their "rich" blend. I'm not sure what that means, and I'll wager Lyons doesn't know what that means. I can report that Gold Blend is another very nice black tea, but to my taste it's "brighter" than Original Blend...whatever that means. Gold Blend does not have the distinctive malty quality I find in Original Blend, a quality that makes Original Blend my preference of the two offerings. (I think I know what "malty" means.) For the tea drinker who enjoys a malty tea, Original Blend will certainly deliver. For those who prefer their tea a bit more balanced or rounded (whatever that means), Gold Blend will meet their expectations. All that said, I will keep both in my rotation...which means I enjoy both for different reasons. You really can't go wrong with either of these very fine black teas. Kudos to Lyons. (Lyons has my permission to describe their Gold Blend as "Our Bright Blend"...again, whatever that means.)Rather than muddle over what rich, balanced, rounded, and brighter mean with regard to tea, do what I do: Have a cup of tea.

A truly Irish tea
I'm just after a year in Co. Mayo where I first started drinking this. Now, back in the states, it's not available locally. I tried the Twinings Irish Breakfast which is English idea of an Irish tea. But it seemed empty and hollow. That's all well and good if the only things you have to do today is write a check to your nanny who looks after your kids, or write letters to your tenants. But if you have actual work to do the Twinings just won't help. I have a scale at home which highly accurate. I used to use it to measure, well, never mind that, but it's very accurate. The weight of the tea in a Lyons tea bag is 3.00 grams. The weight of the tea in a Twinings Irish Breakfast tea bag is 2.00 grams. Another English brand of Irish tea is 2.5 grams. This may not be conclusive of any such thing, but as someone with quite a bit to do in a day I'm much happier with the Lyons. If I can get a bag of Barrys tea I'll give that a weigh and be back.
