We used this guide for a study of the Screwtape Letters. We added the audio of John Cleese as Screwtape, which was very entertaining (audio is not necessary). Really a fantastic study of a funny, difficult and often disturbing book, which we only fully understood via the study. I had read the book before and never, ever got out of it what I did through this study. The group concurred. The questions and scripture references are dead on. As the group leader, it was very easy to use the guide and conduct the class. We just finished the study yesterday and I'm still pondering it, and probably will for a good long time. Thank you Alan for acting as such an excellent guide of C. S. Lewis, and helping to make such a difficult author completely accessible!

We've been using this material for several weeks in our small group, and I'm surprised at how elementary it is and frustrated by the questions which seem to repeat themselves in each lesson. I understand he taught this material and developed it during his teaching, so it is credible, but it just isn't well written. I think we get more of just reading the book and discussing ti's concepts. One thing the guide does is offer back-up scripture and that's appreciated. This guide is too expensive for what it offers.

I am studying/reading the Screwtape Letters with a weekly bible study group. The Leader Guide and materials have been very helpful to my ability to lead the discussion. The chapter summaries are helpful to keeping things in context. I especially appreciate the scripture references to help balance our opinions against the lies and strategies from Screwtape (and friends).We opted to read a chapter a week so that we could maximize our conversation and education. We are striving to pull as much as possible from each chapter, not just rush thru the book. So, I think we are only about on chapter 7 this week! haha! The hardest part (for some of my group) is that we have to read the chapter two or three times to truly understand what's going on. Sometimes, the language/vocabulary in Screwtape Letters is difficult to wrap your head around.But we are encouraging one another and enjoying the lively discussion that the book generates. And this is why I greatly appreciate the Scripture references in the Study Guide, to help focus our attention on God's promises, God's word, to give us hope for combating the Enemy.

Our small group Bible study chose to work through the Screwtape Letters and I was glad to find this study guide. We chose to discuss three letters per week. The study guide notates what paragraph the answers can be found in which is helpful. There is also author's answers and Scriptures referred to as PDF downloads which was helpful for some of the more confusing sections. We have used the questions to be springboards for some great discussions about the role of temptations and weaknesses we are called to face as Christians. We are about 2/3 of the way through. Group response has been favorable, and they can be a tough crowd to please.

I just finished leading our adult Sunday School class in a study of the Screwtape Letters using this study guide as my guide in the class. This guide helped me when I became 'stuck' trying to formulate questions and answers for the class and in many cases I used the questions in the book. It was a very helpful guide for a class who probably won't do a lot of pre-class 'homework' but come to class and participate in a wonderful way. I sometimes wanted some more self examining questions and filled in for those but I recommend the book if you are leading a class, taking a class, or just reading on your own.

This is an essential companion if you are reading the screwtape letters as a small group. Lets face it, C.S. Lewis can be difficult to read, and without a guide everyone can miss so much. The questions are both thoughtful and guide the discussion to keep your group moving forward. The format it excellent with the various introduction summaries and having a lesson for each chapter makes this very versatile.

I have been a fan/student of Screwtape Letters for many years. I regularly quote Screwtape in sermons. I first read it as a new Christian my freshman year of college. In reading it through again, alongside this new study guide I found it coming alive again, almost like the first time I read it (almost 47 years ago). I am planning to take a group of men through it this summer and this study guide will be used to stimulate the discussion.I heartily recommend Vermilye's study guide for a rich experience with Screwtape . . . whether you are a newcomer to the book or a veteran like me.

Our small group used this study guide as we went through the book at it was great!We didn't use every single question in the book but used it the help start some great conversation as our small group read through the book together. The questions are some times a little difficult to answer, it feels more like reviewing what you just read than a book that helps guide deeper conversation but we all talk a lot so it went in a good direction with some help!

I bought this thinking it was a study guide with the book included which is what I would expect for the price but it only gives you the first couple of paragraphs for each chapter....It is only a small book so I would expect each chapter to be included. I bought the kindle edition....Anyway I returned it as I dont want to have to buy the book as well....

CS Lewis has some ideas worth thinking about. This is a great book to start on if you are new to CS Lewis. I bought the audio book but my little pea sized brain needed to see the words while it was being read to me to get the most out of it. Loved it!
