Modiphius Entertainment Star Trek Adventures Core Rulebook RPG for Adults, Family and Kids 13 Years Old and Up (Licensed Sci-Fi RPG)

The best Star Trek RPG to date.
I was a bit hesitant about buying this. Star Trek RPGs in the past have failed to grab me. This one is different. It's full of fast and delightful mechanics that work well and help make the game feel like your in the Star Trek universe. It's not a zero to hero game in the traditional D&D style. You can play characters that have been through Star Fleet academy. They are highly trained and confident, but they can still learn something new.Modiphius continues to support this game. There are some great supplements out and there is a free "living" campaign.I can highly recommend this, but if your not sure then take a look at some actual play videos on youtube and see how it runs.

Great book for Trek fans, and a great RPG, period
Love this book. The in-universe writing and snippets are great, the LCARS design is great (yes, the white on black text is controversial, but I'm cool with it). The 2D20 system is definitely a bit of work to grok if you're coming from another system, but it works solidly here for Trek, and if you embrace it all, it does feel like playing through scenes in an episode of Trek, which is exactly what you want from a Trek RPG. The game seems very well supported, with a number of core book releases per year along with a living campaign and digital adventure releases.

Above Average but could be better
The book itself is of good quality - not the best hard copy of an RPG I have ever bough, but certainly good enough quality.I have yet to playtest this so will not comment on the rule system here - but I would say there is a lot more 'fluff' in this book than is perhaps needed for a major franchise game. Many, many pages are given over to things that all but the most casual Trek fan would be familiar with. It's not likely someone would buy this knowing nothing about Star Trek at all.The artwork and layout is excellent though, and it looks like a good effort overall - I look forward to playing this game with my group.

The Star Trek RPG you've been waiting for!
This is a wonderful book. As a long-time Star Trek fan - and RPG player - I have dipped in and out of ST-themed RPG's for years now; some official, some "home-brewed". With this latest book by the talented people at Modiphius, however, I feel I've really found a sweet-spot. The rules are intuitive and easy enough to grasp - and also very well laid out. The rules for character creation really capture the essence of Star Trek, I feel - whilst still allowing a lot of play choice and variation. But it's the book itself, as a product, that appeals most. The presentation of the book internally closely echoes the 'classic' ST aesthetic in colours, fonts, and formats. There is a plethora of lore which for some anoraks might seem like overkill, but for me makes this book a welcome tome that can be used for reference,as it crosses many 'generations' of Star Trek lore, allowing you play as Kirk, or Janeway, Picard - or whomever you please. The rules are strong, the presentation superb. I would recommend giving this a go if you're a fan of SciFi RPG's generally (if you're a Star Trek RPG then is a mandatory purchase)- but would also recommend it to any Trekkie who wants an attractive coffee-table book full of lore and beautiful art.

Very disappointing
About two-thirds of this book is wasted on background any Star Trek fan would know. Very unintuitive book layout with mediocre art work. Full of cynical attempts to get you to buy more of their products (no Klingon PC rules - must get with an expansion). The system itself is OK, nice that it allows different eras to be played even if it does focus from TNG onwards, and nice that it isn't hyper focused on combat like most RPGs.Overall very disappointing and extremely overpriced - if you can get it for about £25 it might be worth it if you're a big enough fan or you're loaded.Edit: Having now thoroughly read the manual I would change my rating to one star. The layout of the book borders on the amateur and makes playing what is actually a decent system unnecessarily difficult.

Worst Binding I've Ever Had in an RPG
Star Trek Adventures is a fantastic game and an absolute blast to play. I've been running it weekly for over a month now and have enjoyed every second of it. That being said, this is one of the worst roleplaying books I have ever bought. The black on white pages, while beautiful to look at, are an absolute pain to read. If you don't have very good eyesight I'd recommend getting the pdf version off Modiphius' official site. It should also be noted that the hardbacks sold from their official site include a free pdf while the ones sold off of Amazon do not (although as the Q&A section notes you can request one by contacting them). The biggest issue I have with the book however is that the binding is absolutely terrible. Within two weeks of sitting on the shelf and occasional gentle usage a large section of the book towards the middle was severely damaged. The pages are barely holding on and I have to show this book the same level of care that I do when handling an antique book and it still manages to feel like its degrading. I've turned almost completely to the pdf at this point. This is some of the cheapest binding I've experienced in the hobby. I have books in my shelf from the 80's that have been used less frequently and carefully with less damage. The 10 day repair time on their official site is also not nearly adequate.Save your money, just buy the pdf.

Bad book binding
Okay first off, the game looks awesome and I am running my first game next week. That being said the book binding is terrible. I’ve owned it for two weeks now and I have two separate chapters coming off the book. I’ll contact the company and how I get somewhere with them but I really like the game and I want to keep the book. I would suggest you get this RPG game but get the PDF version not the hard copy.
