The Price is right!
I bought this book when it was on a great sale ($3) on Amazon, and now that I have received it, I am glad I got it. This book has 6 big pop-up scenes and the bottom corners generally have windows you can open which shows more flanimal types. The writing in it is kind of quirky and uses a lot of made up words to describe made up creatures. This is a book purely to marvel at the creatures and enjoy: there is nothing to really be learned here. However, Ricky Gervais creates satire of the human race quite subtly in this book. There is a creature that looks humanoid and believes in a creator known as "Grob". This is obviously a reference to God. He uses the adjective "mental" to describe the particular notion.Of course, kids probably won't see the connection and most adults would laugh to themselves about it because it is all in good fun.I think this book has some fantastic paper scenes and is definitely worth the $3-8 you spend on it. It makes me want to buy other pop-up books!(Retail for the book is $20)Pick it up!!

Hilarious, bright, and imaginative but not for younger children
Flanimals is not for younger audiences. It is a children's book for sure but careful with younger children who are afraid of monsters or you think may be at the age that this may be the case. The "animals" in this book can be scary at first glance but become more fun and interesting and the children re-read the book. The pages have these flanimals that jump out at you when you turn each page. The book is well constructed and should last as long as the pop-up books did that we grew up with maybe longer. There are plenty of weird creatures and things to do in the book that it keeps children coming back to it.Flanimals is full of color and personality, just like the author Ricky Gervais. I would recommend this book to maybe 5th and 6th graders but middle schoolers will also enjoy it. It is up to the parent though. Some kids have bigger imaginations than others and this book will help that grow.

Unreal how great the pop-ups are in this thing
When I was a kid, pop-up books were a joke. We didn't know it at the time, but they were utter crap compared to this thing. We love anything Ricky Gervais does, so we decided to give this book a try. We continue to love everything he does! Funny, great dude and this book is mesmerizing for kids! You just can't give it to kids that are too young because they would definitely damage the great characters that come to life when you open the pages. Maybe a 4 or 5 year old under careful supervision would be fine. Anything younger than that and they would just unknowingly wreck it.

Poppin off!
Ricky Gervais is one of my beloved heroes (his devotion to saving & love for animals). His pop-up is fantastic! I'm proud to have it displayed on my book shelf, among all my favorites. I started collecting pop up books last year, and this is one of my firsts, along with a rare copy of Alice in Wonderland.Warning: the spine is fragile - I actually had to return the book twice due to damage before or during delivery. The third copy came in tact, but I see that much care should be taken with it. If buying for a human spawn, you should get the regular books, not the pop-up, if you want it to remain in good condition.

Best Pop-Up book Ever!
The Flanimal book series is amazing - it's not for everyone but our kids love the pop-up book. It's got so much detail in the pop-ups and secret pockets on each page. Some flanimals are quite scary to look at so this isn't a book for little kids but older kids (at least ours) dig it.

Anti-Religion and Inappropriate for Children
This book annoyed me because of a needless page in it about creation that says "One Flanimal believed that a weird creature called Grod who lives in the sky made all the Flanimals in one day. Mental!" This blip is accompanied by a picture parodying Michelangelo's "Creation" image in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. Mockery of major religious tenets just isn't appropriate for children's books...adult books, fine. Children's books, no.

Received damaged
Very cute book, we loved it. But can not give it as a gift as planed because it was damaged when we received it. It really needed to be pack in a box. The spine of the book was damaged in shipping do to being put in a padded envolpe.

If you have children who are easily scared, this is not a book for them
Too scary for some kids.... The pictures are very unique, but there's no actual story. It's just descriptive info on every character. If you have children who are easily scared, this is not a book for them. It will simply give them new things to fear for. I think it might be appropriate for a 10 year old, no younger.
