Great backpack/duffel. Very well made! Love the Nitro Green color!
I recently received the Osprey Porter 30 pack, and wow, I'm very impressed! The overall design is well thought out and the quality is excellent! The material, and all the stitching, zippers, clips, etc. seem very tough and should last for years. (As previously mentioned, it comes with a lifetime warranty anyway!) I really like the large zipper around the main compartment, and how the compartment opens widely, for easy access! I also like the top and side handles, which are very strong and "beefy." There is also a smaller, thin handle on the bottom, which one may not use much, but it seems to be fairly strong as well. There are plenty of pockets and organization features that should please most users. I even discovered two pockets on each side (inside) the main compartment. They close with Velcro, and would be suitable for long, thin items. (Small items may get lost in the sides of the pack, as there is no pocket lining!) The only design change I would make would be to have the zipper for the shoulder/hip strap compartment come down the sides a bit, instead of just across the top. Perhaps even a zipper across the bottom as well. It's a bit cumbersome to fold and tuck in the hip straps especially, but it's doable, and this is just a very minor issue. In "duffel" mode, you don't even know the straps are there, and it carries nicely--well balanced. For a "smaller" pack, there really is quite a bit of space--you can shove a lot of stuff into it! I'm planning on some future travels outside the US, and this will be my only luggage for up to a month. I know I will be able to pack everything I need, and from the research I've done, it should qualify as a carry-on with just about every airline. By the way, I really like the "Nitro Green" color! Depending on how the light hits it, it's kind of a "muted" kelly green, not too overwhelming! It really looks great and as I write this, is $33 less than the other colors, so for me, it was a no-brainer! Overall, I really love this backpack/duffel, and I think it will please most people! I wish you luck in your decision!

I love my green backpack!
Super light-weight and very distinctive, both in design and color. I really like this backpack. I used it as my carry-on for a European trip (a lot of walking in Iceland, Norway, and the UK, and I wanted to avoid checking baggage on all my flights), and never had an issue using it on any airline, including EasyJet. I say it's light-weight, but until you pick one of these up yourself you wouldn't believe me when I say how amazingly light it is. Even packed to bursting, it was still much lighter than I would have imagined a piece of luggage could be.The straps were very easy to adjust, even while on your body. I like the extra handles on the bottom/side. And the little storage compartment in the back for the straps is nice, if you want the straps out of the way.I've never done any real "backpacking" (just walking with a very full backpack when I was in school, years and years ago) so I don't know how it compares to other backpacks in that regard. My back was never thrilled carrying this backpack and my messenger bag at the same time, but I imagine that would be true no matter what I was using as a backpack. But the straps were thick and comfortable, even the stomach strap. The bag felt very secure on my body. This bag seems super sturdy. After seven flights and 12 days living out of it, nothing broke or ripped or was snagged or leaked or whatever. I love the green. If you want to blend into a crowd, don't buy this bag! So as my first official travel backpack, I'm very happy with it, and it was worth the very reasonable price I paid for it.

Great Travel Bag
Pretty good travel backpack! The bag itself is really well made. I never worry about rips/tears due to overstuffing. I love the front straps on this thing--it easily allows you to compress the bag down. This little feature saves me from having to try to stuff my bag on the overhead bin in planes. It also makes everything neat and compact, which aids in carrying. The main compartment unzips like a small suitcase, and there are plenty of front pockets for electronics. The only drawbacks to this bag is the overall weight. I'm a 5'2" female, so weight is a huge concern for me when shopping for travel bags. This back is somewhat heavy, but still manageable if you pack light. I typically use mine for long weekend trips, and can carry two jeans, a couple of sweaters, toiletry bag, socks etc., fairly easily. If the bag was a bit lighter I would be able to pack more and/or carry it for longer periods. I imagine this wouldn't be a problem for a taller person though. I also wish the backpack had a side mesh to hold a water bottle.Overall, I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. A great buy for most travelers.
