Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, and Billy have just become the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Guided by Zordon and Alpha 5, they will have to defend the earth from the evil Rita Repulsa and her horde of monsters. ITโS MORPHIN TIME Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Trini, and Billy have just become the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Theyโve also just started high school. Chronicling their formative days as teen heroes, the Rangers will have to balance the responsibilities of growing up with defending the world from the threat of Rita Repulsa. And she has a plan to defeat the Power Rangers. One theyโll never see coming, because itโll come from one of their own. Written by Ryan Parrott (Star Trek: Manisfest Destiny, Sabanโs Power Rangers: Aftershock) and illustrated by Eisner Award-winner Dan Mora (Klaus). Review: Almost better than the franchise deserves - Much like James Roberts on More Than Meets The Eye, there's a certain cognitive dissonance in reading a book that brings so much world building, pathos and excitement to the Power Rangers, a franchise born from a 1990s big-mac-and-fries repackaging of cheap Japanese Sentai. Ryan Parrott and Dan Mora absolutely knock it out the park in volume 1 and 2, with a pot pourri of familiar tropes from Busiek-esque Astro City/Marvels concerns about the aftermath of battle, to John Hughes-movies-but-with-mobile-phones teen melodrama. After these initial volumes we're into the huge Shattered Grid crossover which is much loved though to be honest I got a little fatigued with it -- with these early volumes though, the creators are cooking with gas. Review: Great book, damaged in shipping... my heart just broke abit as a fan and customer. - I pre-ordered this back in May after i started reading the Mighty Morphin Series and heard of the tie-ins this will have to Shattered Grid later on. I couldn't wait to catch up and read the adventures and personalities Boom Comics gave our heroes. As the weeks ticked by, my anticipation grew for its arrival. I couldn't wait for this to reach my front door. However when I got home, my heart sank when I didn't see the package at my front door step and my heart was crushed when I found it folded and shoved into my mailbox because of the soft packaging. As I opened my package to assessed the damage, I knew it wouldn't be the same. Bent as an S shape magazine with a stiff crease mark across the red ranger helmet on the cover, my heart as a fan and customer was just disappointed. I still gave it 5 stars because the storyline, art work, and detail was still amazing, but with other pre-ordered comics in the wings (Next mighty morphin book and go go #2. I don't know if I want them to suffer damage as I just received.)

Morphinominal
I haven't been reading any of Boom's Power Rangers universe comics, but I picked this up on the strength of the art alone, and was very, very pleased! Dan Mora's work is shockingly good, every page infused with energy and life. His Megazord splash pages are worth the cover price alone. The writing is effective--it's a fun, all-ages tone that takes itself just the right amount of seriously, adding pathos and consequence to the Power Rangers earliest adventures. The focus here is on the strain being Rangers puts on their personal lives, and that constant alien invasion puts on Angel Grove. This is the Power Rangers comic I'd have killed for as a kid. Recommended for young and old, new and lapsed fans alike. 4.5/5
