Re-evaluation
I originally rated this product 1 star due to poor instructions. Eventually, I was able to locate and download the proper software to my desktop. I missed this software location in the instructions initially due to the very fine print.The microscope does work on my desktop, but not as advertised. 1. the zoom (which is in the software is 200x, not 1000x. 2. Definition is not 1080p, but 620p. 3. the zoom button on the camera is disabled. 4. focus is controlled by what appears to be the zoom ring on the camera.The dongle to adapt the standard USB cable to the Android type C USB does not appear to fit into the phone socket deeply enough. I can get the lights to work only while holding the dongle in a certain position. I found the correct app in the app store but while it functions as a regular camera, I cannot get it to recognize the microscope. This may be due to the connectivity issue with the dongle.I think I will be able to use this for its intended purpose (examining bearings) on my desktop but am disappointed in: 1. not working with my phone, 2. not having the capabilities advertised.I purchased the microscope with the small round chrome plastic base which does not keep the camera steady enough for the purpose intended. I will attach a steel plate to the bottom of the base to steady it. If I were to purchase another, it would be one with the camera attached to a flat board/stand.

Know What You Are Buying. This does not "zoom" like you may think it should.
I use this for something very different. I run a computer controlled router (cnc). I wanted an easy way to align fixtures, vises, etc. A laser dot is too big and inaccurate. This works very well and I am happy with it. BUT. Zooming is a function of distance from the object you are viewing. What looks like a zooming wheel is actually a focus knob. In other words if you mount the scope in a fixed position it will NOT zoom in or out. It will digitally but picture quality is lost. It would be best if this scope were mounted on a stand that allowed it to be moved up and down easily. But I do not use it like most people and it works really well for my intended purpose. My biggest criticism is that the instruction manual requires a microscope to be read! Also it is not very clear, the booklet says one thing, but then there is a mini cd that is entirely different. Messy to say the least.

A good fun, and educational toy. Works great on Mac.
This is not going to replace an expensive professional microscope, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well this thing does! The built-in LEDs provide even lighting, and the camera resolution and color reproduction are quite good.On a Mac, simply plug it in and go to your Photo Booth App. Under Cameras menu, select the USB 2.0 camera and your microscope's view will be on the screen ready for you to capture an image.The stand is really lousy: easy to break, wiggles when you try to focus, and can't even be set to let the camera point perfectly perpendicular to the base... but it's not the end of the world. You can even use this camera hand-held if you are steady.But it's hard to argue with a lighted, digital, microscope for this price. I great buy for a responsible kid who won't immediately break it. Very good value.

not worth the time or money
I was excited to find these for my grandson. They were inexpensive, he is 5, if he really liked it and used it I would upgrade to a more expensive model. The reviews were good so I ordered 2. They were well packaged but had no English directions. I did not have time to learn a second language. After I finally downloaded all that was needed, I could see a blurry, far away image of what I was aiming at. I was unable to focus and then my new phone froze. As soon as I uninstalled everything the phone was fine and I returned them. I suppose if the directions had been more clear and not so convoluted and also were included in the box I may have tried again.

Bravissimo! Excellent Vision Field. A++
Super nice great performance. I use it for many many things like Biology, Physics & Collectibles; such to see the electronic number parts of little Electronic parts or many other blurred numbers that you can't see well... WOW! It's really works!!! The image looks clear and super magnified. . . It was worth every penny we invested in that microscope viewer...Fast shipping too wrapped in a box very securely so as not get damaged during shipping... No issues or problem to configurate to any device, so the drivers runs in any digital system. . . We tested in many systems and runs without problem, such in many devices to check the performance and it's configurable as you want . . . 2 years with us continues working like it was new if I buyed yesterday.We recommended 100%

You get what you paid for with this one, and that ain't a whole lot.
Gawdawful documentation, unless you're fluent in Chinese. Same for the setup disc: an utter nightmare to find the correct driver.Once you get it finally installed, there's still another hurdle in getting the app to do what you want.The scope itself is a bitch to get and maintain focus, though a nice, clear image, when you at last succeed.Zoom button on the unit does nothing, guess it's just for show.Claims to zoom to 1000x, but not really. About 400x, tops, from what I can see.Nice starter kid's toys, but that's all you can really expect for the price, no?

Good for homeschooling
This is a great little microscope. I use it for homeschooling my daughter who loves science. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the microscope program will not load ( I just restart it and then it works). I also could not get this to work with our RasbPie, but that might be a user issue and not product. Overall I would recommend this to anyone, but just have patience when setting up for the first time. Also if the screen is black... turn up the light all the way. I have noticed that you have to turn the knob all the way to get a good picture on the app.

Eeehhh
I can't really say to much bad stuff about this microscope because lets be honest. You pay for what you get. If your doing microsoldering or anything like that and your completely broke. Then you can make thos work but its clearly not a proper microscope. If you want a proper microscope. Plan to spend a whole lot more. In a bind, this can work, but its not pleasant. Its a kids toy basically.
