The first 117 pages are great. The rest? You've seen it a hundred times before.
I only recently discovered Jessica Smith's DVDs, and I love her low-key and encouraging attitude. She's truly excellent. So I ordered a copy of the book. I can't review the accompanying DVD because I bought a used copy of the book that did not include the DVD.The first part of the book is all about the exercise, and I like Jessica's philosophy on working out in 10-minute segments. The routines she illustrates seem doable but challenging. The rest of the book, however, is about nutrition and lifestyle, and those parts contain exactly the same information, tips, and recommendations as hundreds of other books and thousands of magazine articles. Limit yourself to 1,500 calories a day, don’t eat out much, park at the far end of the parking lot, take the stairs instead of the elevator, get plenty of sleep, stand up and stretch every hour, walk to your coworker’s desk instead of sending an email, don’t drink your calories… Nothing new. Truly, it’s all been said before, a kajillion times, and in exactly the same manner. Along with the same untrue assertion that I won’t feel hungry on a 1,500-calorie meal plan if I'm exercising. The verdict - get her DVDs instead of this book.

Excellent for those new to fitness, or to complement any existing plan
First off, my opinion of Jessica Smith may be a little biased, because I have been a BIG fan of her workouts and teaching methods for close to three years now. (I LOVE HER!!)I started my weight loss journey with a box of Special K cereal, and a free "10 Minute Solution" DVD that came in the box. Little did I know, that little free DVD would change my life. Each section on the DVD was instructed by Jessica Smith, hence my "healthy obsession" with her teaching methods and style. Since that time, I have added each and every single DVD that Jessica ever put out to my DVD to my collection.I bought this book, initially to support Jessica, as I had been doing her workout DVDs for years. I didn't think I would find much pertinent information in this book since I had been working out consistently for a long time, but soon found out I was sorely mistaken. In addition to the step by step workouts, tips for living a healthier lifestyle (including a full meal plan) and direction for burning more calories, and becoming healthier each day, this book includes a 60 minute DVD complete with a cardio workout, strength training workouts, abdominals and a stretching workout which can be done individually, or together for a complete full body workout.Having thoroughly read through the book, I learned several new "tips of the trade", and have implemented what I have learned towards improving my own personal health both physically, emotionally, and nutritionally. This book is perfect for anyone just starting out on their fitness journey, or a seasoned, active, and somewhat healthy individual such as myself. :)A big two thumbs up, and 5 stars from me!

Simplicity at it's Finest!
I am at home fitness DVD addict, who also has probably ever diet book ever published!I have been using Jessica's DVD 10 pounds down Total Body Tune Up and I don't say this lightly when I say it has to be among my top 5 workout dvd's-not only is it an intense workout, but it has no complicated moves(I have two left feet with fancy and fancy steps!)and zero dread factor.I was so excited to see that Jessica had a book out with an eating plan to follow. So many diet books require all sorts of fancy ingredients that I've never heard of and meal preparation that takes hours.I am not a Gourmet cook and with 3 kids I can't afford to shop in upscale Health Food stores for foreign ingredients. The recipes in here are so simple, yet tasty and so uncomplicated.I am 48 and now that I'm older it is so much harder to lose this stubborn 10 pounds.I need to have a specific plan to follow,as it can get so confusing at times to know what to eat and how much.I am a very healthy eater, yet struggle with these unbudgeable extra pounds.Having an easy to follow plan laid out in black&white is what I need.I love reading through all the recipes& tips in this book and can't wait to get started!I really hope to be 10 pounds down in time for Summer!

Good Book
The DVD does not always play real well so that is way only 3 stars. I purchased for the DVD, but found I did like the exercises in the book. I currently do strength training at a 15 minute twice a week with a trainer (Exercise Institute), so I was looking for a 10 to 15 minute stretching to add on other days. Also, I walk daily and this gave me great tips for my walks.

AMAZING!
Yet again another amazing contribution to the world of fitness by our Jessica Smith! I have been on my fitness journey for a while now and I must say this book is AMAZING for both beginners and advanced alike. It it perfect for those beginning since it doesn't overwhelm one with daunting hours working out. It is also perfect for the advanced, since she does offer three different levels of challenge and you take it up to where you feel you can take it. It breaks it down to 10 min segments that are not only quick but super challenging (my arms are still sore from using the resistance bands two days ago! And yes I have been strength training). The recipes provided in here are also yummy yummy and add variety to anyone that may feel healthy is boring......Healthy eating is anything BUT!

My eureka moment...
I work from home but never seem to have time to grab my keys, drive to the gym and take a 50 minute class. Yet, I always seem to have 10 minutes to rummage in the fridge for a snack. My eureka moment came in the first chapter - hello, 'exercise snacking'?!? What a concept. Instead of a 10 minute fridge run I'm spending 10 minutes grabbing an exercise snack. Makes me feel better and I'm actually better able to focus on my day. Thanks Jessica & Liz! I just wish that there was some way to get the DVD content with the Kindle version, but found tons of great quick videos on the blog.

Very disappointed by this book/DVD set
I love the majority of Jessica Smith's DVD workouts, but I am so sad to say I was disappointed with the DVD element of this book. The book was simple, informative and contained 5 written out 10 minute workouts, along with other exercise and dietary advice, which was interesting. However, when I did the full DVD which has a further quantity of 5 x 10 minute workouts, they were not good at all, which was a surprising disappointment because I have all of Jessica Smith's DVD Walking workouts and others, which are superb and some of the best fitness DVD's on the market for all levels. However, the DVD included in this book was a poor reflection of these. I did not enjoy any of the sessions, because it was boring or some of the moves were hard to achieve due to them being geared to a more advance level status, so I didn't feel safe doing some of them. I am a regular exerciser of 25 years and consider myself intermediate level. She did explain some beginner options on a couple of the exercises, but not on enough of them, it would have helped if she had some other people working out with her showing the beginner, intermediate and advance options. The backdrop/set which Jessica was exercising in was really boring to look at, making the workouts even more laborious to do and the music was laughably awful especially for the stretch/cool down session. Overall, I don't really rate this book/DVD Set and will be putting it up for resale. However, that said I do highly recommend all of Jessica's other DVD workouts. Especially the walking ones, one of which is a 3 DVD box set, that is superb for all levels: Jessica Smith: Walk Off the Weight 30 Day Plan (Low Impact High Results Program)Jessica Smith: Walk Off the Weight 30 Day Plan (Low Impact High Results Program)
