Heavy Duty & An Accurate,Stable Clutch.
I've been using this drop clutch at all my live performances for the past couple months and it has performed flawlessly. I set it once during sound check and it stays put throughout the show - allowing me to drop the top hh cym. at the tap of a stick and instantly switch my left foot over to the left side DW-5000 double-bass pedal while still playing my hh and then, seamlessly and instantly, vswitch back to controlling my hh when the double kick patterns are complete. In addition, I also used this drop clutch in a recording studio session in Orlando just 2 weeks ago, and had no complaints from the studio engineers or producer. This is a top shelf clutch that will perform for you - while *you're* performing or just practicing for your own future performances!

Good design and well made
I had a Cannon brand clutch and I bought this one to replace it. What I like about this one is how the release lever works. On the Cannon the lever was vertical. This made actuating it a less natural motion. With this one you hit it with a down stroke of your stick and it releases. That motion is much more natural and this makes it easier to use. An argument could be made that this one coule be easier to actuate accidentally but I have had no issue with it. Aside from the actuation of the release it is also well made and works very well.

Nice clutch for a nice price
I was looking for a cheaply priced hi hat drop clutch... well, I saw this. This thing would be perfect if not for one thing... the hook never seems to grab the hat completely. It will grab it but only by the very edge. I tried tinkering with it and cannot seem to get it to grab. I can reach over and push it to grab it fully and I can feel heavy resistance. I'm giving thought of taking sandpaper to the hook until it can grab the hat completely. Also, no instructions were included. Luckily, I know about these devices and have used them before... but I could see this being an issue for anyone that hasn't. Overall, it serves the purpose well. Despite the hook only partially grabbing the hat, I have been able to use this device with no hiccups in play.

the coolest
This is the coolest clutch ever, when you tap the drop lever with your stick....it drops the hat loose on the other. If you decide you want a tighter sound, tap the foot pedal and it picks it up again. Very very handy when your playing double bass. Tap a lever instead of STOP & unscrew the hat. Genius. Whether you like your hi hats waaaay loose or straight tight, the drop clutch is by far the best I've seen. The only bad thing I can think of is the plastic on the drop lever will evenually wear away but I've invited over some real heavy hitters and months later, its held up perfectly. Great product, great price.

This works perfectly
Some have noted they had to tweak it a bit to get it to release/catch well. I don't doubt that, but the one I have works just fine. I have had to play with the opening on my high hats a bit, though; the way the catch works, there's an "unsweet spot" where the opened catch lever will push down on the dropped cymbal, and you may not want that. Especially considering the clutch is slightly heavier than a normal one, to begin with. It's also been noted that you may want to do something if you want more of that 'sizzle' sound while the hat is dropped. Since you can't manually keep that tiny gap - plus the clutch's weight - you may need to play with a felt-washer-spring-washer-felt system between the hats. Just trim the spring for the exact sizzle you want. I'm probably going to be doing this myself. The lever works well to release the hat. I typically use 5B sticks, and just a light but solid tap releases. When I'm using my 7A's, it takes a slight bit more effort, but it works.

It’s great.
Going from standard clutch to this is very nice and easy. I had been playing for years and never bothered with one of these. The extra weight gives you fine tuned control with the HH. It feels great. You will not regret this purchase.

every drummer needs one of these
Recieved this yesterday and put it on to try This has got to be one of the best things they have come up with im getting back in to drumming after 25 years My son bought me a set of double peddals for christmas and im trying to get them down I tried to drop the hi hats by hand and reatach them by hand IT didnt work After doing some reading i found this BEing retired i try to do things on a buget Itried it ang love it works as it should or even better One note to people having trouble getting it to hook is to tighten the high hats a little more it makes it hook alot easier and better IVE tried hitting easy and hard no problem have played for hours and not one mess up love it

Gibraltar hi hat drop clutch
Well, to be honest I had a little trouble figuring it out. Because my Hi Hat has hardware that didn't quite match up.(the threads and so forth) So, with a little ingenuity, patience, admittedly a little bit of swearing at times, when the patience ran thin. I figured it out. And it works fantastic. I started out on the drum set at 9 years old, & I played till I was about 17. I haven't played since then until about year ago. (That's been approximately 39 years.) I got back into it, and obviously as far as technology is concerned I've been out of the loop. This is a great thing to have for any drummer. so far, it's been a lot of fun to use. And for the time being, I would recommend it to anyone.

works a treat!
just got into double bass pedals and encountered the problem of washy hats when I am ripping up the bass. This works really well and is a really elegant solution to the problem.
