America's First Black General: Benjamin O. Davis, Sr., 1880-1970 (Modern War Studies)

We have a Veteran-run Military Cadet Corps. in our private Christian School. As part of Black History Month, we did a project regarding Black Military Leaders, and this book was the start of the whole project!

One of the best books on the life of a military person I have ever read. Probably the only other military biography on an Africa American officer nearly as compelling is the one on his son. Would recommend that all serious students of military history read this book!

Very interesting book and well written. Gen. Benjamin O. Davis was posted at a fort near where I lived over 100 years ago and it makes it interesting to read about life at what was most likely the quietist fort on the frontier.

This is an excellent biography of Gen. Davis. He was a great soldier, who managed to become an officer in the US Army in the face of Jim Crow racism. His career was held back and often endangered by this racism. Yet he never turned his back on serving his country or gave up his career in the face of so many obstacles. It is a truely inspirational story about a great American.

Good book on the life of the first black General in the military.
