The molded plastic features are good quality but you can tell it is not hand finished. I saw a few molding burrs around the sharp corners. I measured the tip opening to be about 1.4mm (.055") which explains why it is so easy to get a good sound. I used a Rico 2.5 strength reed. It seemed free flowing to me. I have many other sax mouthpieces that cost 10 or even 20 times more and all have their unique sound but I believe your student will not be disappointed with this purchase.
