I drink coffee black normally because I love the full rich flavor. I was beyond pleasantly surprised at the delicious, complex flavors in this decaf dark roast blend. To be frank, I'm normally disappointed. I've switched to decaf for health reasons and have struggled to find a bean rich enough to use in my espresso machine that gave me the same level of enjoyment. It's incredibly smooth, rich notes, fresh, and leaves me lingering over the cup for another sip. I LOVE this coffee and I'm so grateful that I can get it in larger quantities at a fair price. This 5# bag of whole decaf beans is the best value that I have been able to find anywhere. When I ran out and went to re-order more, they were out of stock so I had to order a different Amazon branded product. I will keep the last one of the 6 bags of the other beans on hand in case this happens again but I am happy that my preferred 5# Penny Pinchers brand is once again back in stock. My only suggestion is that they provide the option to subscribe for automatic shipments. When I ordered my first bag of Penny Pinchers, I was doubtful that I would like a bean that is so inexpensive but this is a high-quality bean with just the right amount of oil for use in my Jura ENA5 super-automatic espresso machine and the taste is fantastic!

If you like decaf, and you like dark roasts, give this a shot. I LOVE it. It's not the darkest of dark roasts, and yet somehow the flavor is much fuller and more complex than the other decafs I've tried. Do you know how freshly roasted coffee beans smell amazing, like when you walk past them in the grocery store? It may sound weird to say, but this coffee TASTES like that. I don't think I've had a better tasting decaf, and it's superior to most non-decaf coffees I've had. I'm so glad I found this brand.

I am a huge fan of Coffee Bean Direct. I normally order Coffee Bean Direct Decaf Dark Sumatra, Whole Bean Coffee, 5-Pound Bag. When Amazon was out they said the Dark Sumatra would not be coming back so I tried the Coffee Bean Direct Decaf Penny Pincher’s Dark Roast Blend. While it has the same quality and freshness as Dark Sumatra it is much weaker than I prefer. I may have to order Dark Sumatra from Coffee Bean Direct instead of Amazon if it is not returning to Amazon.

Great flavor and an affordable price. I was looking something to replace community decaf dark roast as they had become too expensive. I also wanted to find decaf coffee that was not grounded. This was the only option that came up that was not overly expensive. Taste is better than name brand and affordable

I'm giving this coffee 3 stars because it's fine, and a good value if you do not care if it's freshly roasted. They have a best by date on the package which they say is 1 year from the roast date. My first order was roasted about 1 month before I received it and the beans were dark and oily, the way a fresh dark roast should look. The 2nd order I just received was roasted over 4 months ago and the beans were dry and lighter, showing they were not fresh.

Great taste

It is a "penny pincher's brew", which seems about the only redeeming quality. The beans are a mishmash of this and that, like the leftovers of other companies who more carefully select their products. The initial taste is burnt - overcooked. It's not bitter, which is a plus, but this is not that "Boy, I can't wait for a cup of coffee!" brew. Sugar, cream - they make it better but this is not top-shelf coffee.
